Sophia and Amelia’s conversation wrapped up naturally, though Amelia couldn’t resist one last playful tease before they parted.“You know I’m going to find out everything eventually, right?” Amelia said, grinning as she pulled on her coat.
Sophia smiled, shaking her head. “I know, but for now, I’m keeping some things to myself.”
Amelia sighed dramatically but let it go. “Fine. But don’t forget—girls’ night soon. You owe me all the details.”
With that, they said their goodbyes, and Sophia headed home, feeling a strange mix of emotions swirling within her. She had evaded Amelia’s relentless curiosity, but she knew that sooner or later, she’d have to open up—especially with all that was going on with Alexander and Marcus.

As the days passed, Sophia couldn’t avoid the storm brewing in the background. The confrontation with Marcus’s family was inevitable. She had severed ties with Marcus, but Evelyn and Lauren had always been scheming, and she knew they wouldn’t take her divorce lightly.
It happened one afternoon, not long after her meeting with Amelia. Sophia had gone to the market to pick up some groceries when she saw them—Evelyn and Lauren, walking toward her with cold determination. They looked like they had come for a purpose, and Sophia knew it wouldn’t be pleasant.
“Well, well, well,” Lauren began, crossing her arms as she approached. “Look who we have here. The runaway bride.”
Sophia froze, her pulse quickening, but she quickly recovered, standing tall as they reached her. “I’m not running away. I’m moving on.”
Evelyn, Marcus’s mother, stepped forward, her eyes hard and judgmental. “Moving on? From my son? You think you can just walk away from this marriage and not face the consequences?”
Sophia met Evelyn’s glare with a steady gaze. “I’ve already faced the consequences, Evelyn. I stayed in that marriage long enough to know it wasn’t for me. I deserve better, and you know it.”
Evelyn scoffed, her lips tightening. “Better? Do you think you’ll find better than Marcus? We’ve supported you, given you everything, and this is how you repay us?”
Sophia’s anger flared. “Supported me? By turning a blind eye to Marcus’s affairs? By pretending everything was perfect when it wasn’t? I’m not the one who should be apologizing here.”
Lauren stepped in, smirking. “You’re so full of yourself now, aren’t you? Just because you walked out doesn’t mean you’re free from us. Marcus will make sure of that.”
Sophia felt the threat in Lauren’s words, but she refused to back down. “Let Marcus do whatever he wants. I’m done living under your control.”
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, Sophia thought she might lash out. But instead, Evelyn grabbed Lauren’s arm and turned to leave. “You’ll regret this, Sophia. We don’t forget easily.”
With that, they walked away, leaving Sophia standing in the market, her heart pounding but her resolve stronger than ever.

That evening, Sophia tried to shake off the encounter, focusing on cooking a simple dinner. Alexander, as usual, found his way into the kitchen, drawn by the aroma of her cooking.
As they sat down to eat, a comfortable silence settled over them. Alexander had been more present recently, his cold exterior softening in her presence. But tonight, something was on his mind.
“Why didn’t you tell me about your previous marriage right away?” he asked suddenly, his voice cutting through the quiet.
Sophia froze for a moment, her fork pausing mid-air. She hadn’t expected this conversation. “I wasn’t sure how you’d react,” she admitted. “And... I didn’t want you to think I was using you. I had just signed the divorce papers hours before meeting you. It wasn’t exactly something I planned.”
