As Alexander and Sophia left the Evans residence, the late afternoon sun cast a golden hue across the driveway. The warmth of the day slowly faded, but Sophia's mind was still buzzing with the whirlwind of introductions and the mixed emotions that came with it. She had survived her first meeting with Alexander's family, and while it had its tense moments, she felt a little more secure knowing she had Alexander by her side.
As they walked toward the car, Alexander’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He glanced at the screen and immediately smiled. It was Michael Jordan, one of his best friends from the influential Jordan family. Alexander hadn’t heard from him in a while, and just seeing his name on the screen brought back memories of their adventures. He answered the call, putting the phone to his ear.
"Michael, it’s been a while," Alexander greeted, his voice light.
"Alex, my man!" Michael’s familiar, booming voice came through the speaker. "Where have you been hiding? Jake and I were just talking about how you’ve fallen off the face of the earth. We’re meeting up tonight. You should join us."
Alexander chuckled. "Yeah, I’ve been busy with... well, a lot of things. What’s the plan?"
Michael laughed, clearly eager to catch up. "Nothing crazy, just a little gathering. But it’s been too long since we’ve all hung out. Jake’s already here, and you know how he is. You better come or he’ll accuse you of abandoning your old friends."
Alexander paused for a moment. It really had been a while since he’d seen his closest friends. He also remembered that Michael, being a skilled hacker, could help him investigate the mysterious man in prison. His team was taking too long, and Michael’s expertise could speed things up. Plus, he had a feeling his friends would tease him about his marriage and recent victory over Gerald.
"Alright," Alexander said, "I'll be there."
"Good! Oh, and by the way, we’ve heard some rumors... can’t wait to meet the lucky woman," Michael added with a teasing tone.
Alexander smirked. "See you soon," he replied, ending the call. He turned to Sophia, who was watching him curiously.
"That was Michael Jordan," Alexander explained. "He’s one of my best friends. He and Jake Andrew are meeting up tonight, and they’ve invited us to join them."
Sophia’s eyes widened slightly. She had heard of the Jordan and Andrew families—both were as powerful and influential as the Evans. In fact, the three families were part of the top five most powerful families in the region, alongside the Jason and Peters families. The Jordans were known for their technological empire, and the Andrews controlled vast global real estate and luxury goods markets.
"Oh, okay," Sophia said, feeling a flutter of nervousness. "What will they think of me?"
Alexander smiled, noticing her unease. He gently took her hand, caressing it softly. "Sweetheart, they’ll love you. And if they don’t, well, they’re not really my friends. Don’t worry. You’re with me, and no one’s opinion matters except mine."
Sophia appreciated his reassurance, but it didn’t completely dissolve the anxiety she felt. “It’s just… your friends are from these powerful families, and I—”
Alexander placed a finger on her lips, stopping her mid-sentence. “You’re with me because I love you. Not because of your background or anyone’s expectations. Remember that. I don’t care what anyone else thinks.”
Sophia exhaled slowly, nodding. “Okay,” she whispered.
Alexander kissed her softly on the forehead before moving to the driver’s seat. As he started the engine, his mind drifted back to his friends. Michael Jordan and Jake Andrew were heirs to their respective empires, just like Alexander was to the Evans family business. But unlike them, Alexander had built his business without leaning on the family name, and despite his uncle Gerald’s constant sabotage, he had survived—and thrived.
