Unfortunately, I went to jail but fortunately Jesse bailed me out. "Hey, Hillary Swank from Million Dollar Baby." He said as I walked out. "Hey! You know you just have to say "Hey, Million Dollar Baby." You don't have to reference the specific actress." "Damn. Prison changed you." He said jokingly. "Thanks for bailing me out." I said. "Well, I didn't." He said and I saw Dad. "You called my dad?" I asked seeing him outside the car. "I know, I know but they were putting you in handcuffs, LJ. It looked pretty serious." "That doesn't mean you call my dad!" I told him. "Who else was I going to call? Okay, why are you yelling at me? I'm the only one here!" "I didn't ask you to be!' I told him.
"I was just trying to help you." "I don't need your help; you're not my boyfriend." I told him. "Dad, it's not a big deal." I said approaching. "Yeah, it's a big deal. I get a call in the middle of the night saying my daughter's been arrested for destruction of property." "It was a misunderstanding, and I was protecting my friends. I was putting myself out there like you said and making memories." I told him. "If you think I'm paying for you to go to L.A after a stunt like this, I'm not. Get in the car." "You're seriously not even going to hear what I have to say about this?" I asked. "Not tonight. Just get in." He spoke.
I walked in my dorm to see all of the girls on my side of the room. "Hey!!" "What up, Shawshank?" Amy asked. "Did you get yourself a bitch?" Cynthia Rose asked, and I chuckled. "You guys waited up for me?" I asked. "Of course we waited up for you." Chloe said. "Lara Jean, I'm glad you're here. I'm calling an emergency Bella meeting. First up, our score sheet revealed that the Sockappellas almost beat us. And Fat Amy, you need to do it exactly how we rehearsed it, okay? Exactly." "We should be taking risks. It's not enough to be good, we need to put ourselves out there, be different." I told them. "Lara Jean's right. The Trebles never sing the same song twice." Cynthia Rose said.
"The audience loves the Trebles, they tolerate us. Um... Let me show you this arrangement I've been working on." I said. "I didn't know you were into this stuff." Chloe said. "Yeah." "Okay, I have the pitch pipe, and I say that we focus on the set list as planned. From now on there will be no more wasting time with work or school or boyfriends or partners. Sorry, Cynthia Rose." She said and I always figured she was a lesbian. After they left, Stacie left too. Probably for some hook-up.
Day Of Semi-Finals
It was the day of semi-finals, and I heard my mix on the radio. My mix! I ran to the station and into the studio. "Hey! This is my track! You're playing my song right now!" I said to Luke as he was in the booth. "You put it on the radio! That is amazing!" I said.
"It's a sick beat." He said. "Yeah, I always thought her beats were pretty sick." Jesse said from upstairs. "Hey, Laura, spring break, I want you to take the night shift. Play your music. The DJ at the Garage does a brilliant version of this, but yours? It's better." He spoke. "Yeah, it is." I spoke. "I'm going to listen to her tonight. You should come with." He suggested. "I have a thing..." "Flight attendant training?" He asked looking at my outfit. "It's, uh, Barden Bellas. I have the semi-finals tonight." I told him. "Really? I did not have you pegged as an acapella girl." He said. "That's cause you don't know Laura like I do. See you tonight, LJ." Jesse said then leaving.
We were gassing up and we heard Amy yell. "Oh shit. Bumper just threw a big ass burrito at me. I'm going to kill him, I swear." She said and we went on the road again. "You got yourself a little something there." I told Amy since there were burrito parts behind her ear. "Just leave it. It fuels my hate fire." She said and I sat back down.
Chloe started singing "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus and everyone started joining and they were waiting on me, I started too and not even long after, the bus started slowing down. We were out of gas and had no choice but to call the Trebles to come get us. "Hey." Jesse said coming to sit with me. I just waved with a fake smile. "You're seriously still mad?" "Why do you care? Like I said, you're not my boyfriend." I told him. He looked at the others. "It didn't really seem that way in your dorm." He whispered. "What happens in my dorm, stays in my dorm. I was probably just feeling hypoglycemic at the time." I told him.
We started our set, and everyone was just about to doze off. I went behind Aubrey's back and sang Bulletproof. Of course she gave me looks. She looked at me after we all gathered before Turn the Beat Around. "What the hell, Lara? Were you trying to screw us up?" Aubrey asked as we went backstage. "Are you serious?" "Newsflash. This isn't the Lara Jean show." She said sarcastically and I scoffed. "Okay, I'm sorry that I messed you up, but everyone looked so bored of that set!" I told her. "It's not your job to decide what we do and when we do it. Why don't you ask the rest of the group how they felt about your little improvisation?" She asked. "Stace?" "It was cool. But it did take us a little bit by surprise." "Yeah, a lot by surprise. I told you she wasn't a Bella." Aubrey said. "Aubrey, don't."
"No, it's okay. Really. You don't have to pretend you're allowed to have a say in the group, right?" I spoke. "Your attitude sucks. You're a grade A pain in my ass and I know your hooking up with Jesse." She said. "Whoa. Whoa. Aubrey, calm down. We're not hooking up, I swear." Jesse said from behind me. "Jesus Christ! That's perfect! Of course you're here right now! I don't need your help; can you back the fuck off?!" I asked. I didn't mean to say that, but I was still upset with him. I looked at the Bella's. "Whatever. If that's what I get for trying, then...I'm done." I said then leaving. "Lara Jean? Lara Jean, wait." Benji said following me. "Benji, just let it go." I told him.
I took Luke up on his offer and I went to the bar. "Hey. Is everything okay?" He asked as he came out. "Yeah. I'm just done with those girls." I said and we went in. "Music is music but the acapella stuff is just upsetting." He said. "When's it's done right, it's actually pretty amazing." "Uh, amazing is what you're doing." He said and it was silent for a while. "It's Lara Jean" I said. "What? That's weird. Why didn't you say anything?" He asked. "I don't know. Also, I have a question." "Shoot." "Why did you play my track? Were you just bored and decided that you wanted to play it?" I asked. "Well, I finally listened to it because Jesse kept bugging me. And I thought it was solid. So, I'm going to go hang, you going to be alright with yourself?" He asked. "Sure." He said but I just left.
