I had the night shifts at the radio station and I started playing my music. Something caught my eye in the CD rack. It was The Breakfast Club. I took it and decided to ditch it for a while to go watch it. I watched the whole thing and the ending was so sad. I was sobbing.
The next day
Chloe texted me saying the Bella's were going to finals since The Footnotes were eliminated because little shortie was a highschool student. I decided to stop by Jesse and Benji's dorm. "Jesse, I know you're in there. I can smell popcorn. Jesse, come on, open up." I said. "Hey. I tried to call you. I left you a bunch of messages." I said. "Yeah, I got 'em." He said. "I'm sorry that we fought. I was mad and I overreacted and I'm just... Aubrey makes me crazy." I told him. "Seriously? You think I'm mad because you yelled at me?" "No. I know-" "No. You think you know but you don't. You push away anyone who could possibly care about you. Why is that?" He asked. I felt like crying but I managed to hold back my tears. "I don't know." I said but I did. "Well, you better figure it out because I'm done with... whatever this is." "Jesse..." "I'm done." He said then slammed the door in my face.
Ever since my brother died from a drug overdose, I never really let anyone completely into my life, but I don't like talking about it. I was sixteen though. I went to my dad's. "No one was more surprised than me but I really liked those girls." I said. "And you thought quitting was the answer?" He asked.
"Are you serious? You can say that to me? You and mom still live together, and you're not even married anymore." I said. "Oh, come on, Lara Jean, that's so unfair. Look, your mom and I, we didn't work. But I tried so hard to make things right between us after Ethan's passing. But you just shut me out." "I shut everyone out, don't take it personally. Dad, I miss him." I spoke. "I know. I do too." He said. "What do I do?" I asked. "Well, that's up to you. What would your brother want you to do?" He asked.
I saw the girls fighting like crazy. "Guys stop! What the hell is going on?" I asked and Amy was on top of Aubrey and Chloe and Stacie was blowing her rape whistle. Lily was also what seemed to be puke. "Nothing. Nothing. This is a Bella's rehearsal." Aubrey said getting up. "I know. I just wanted to apologize. What I did was a real dick move, and I shouldn't have changed the set without asking you guys first and I'm really sorry. And Aubrey, if you will have me, I want back in." I said and she didn't say anything, and Cynthia Rose, Fat Amy, Stacie and Chloe were silently nagging her to let me in.
I grabbed the chair that was by the piano and started dragging it. "Wait." "Thank God because that would've been really embarrassing." I said then walking back. "Lara Jean, I know that I've been hard on you, okay? I know that I have been hard on everyone here. But I am my father's daughter. And he always said, "if at first you don't succeed, pack your bags." She said and went to go sit down. "I get it. Mine gets on me too. Just..not like that. I guess we don't really know that much about each other. About most of you, really." I said. "I'll confess something that none of you know about me. I have a lot of sex." Stacie said but I already knew because I live with her. "This is a good idea. That was a really bad example, but this is a good idea. Uh, let's gather around and just get to know each other. Tell the rest of the group something no one else knows." I said.
"I got something. This is hard for me to admit to you guys. Well, for the last two years, I've had a serious gambling problem." Cynthia Rose said. "What?" "It started when I broke up with my girlfriend." She said and I saw Denise mouthing. "I still love you." And I snickered. "Fat Amy?" "I'm an open book. I mean, for God's sake you guys all call me Fat Amy. My real name is Fat Patricia." She said and we were all shocked.
"Okay. Uh, I've never been one of those girls who had a lot of friends who were girls. And I do now. And that's pretty cool. So that's me. Someone else please go." I said. "Okay. Over spring break, I made the courageous decision to remove my nodes. The doctor said I can't sing above a G sharp. Maybe ever. I thought the season was over." Chloe said and she was crying. "Lara Jean, what do we do?" Aubrey asked then throwing the pitch pipe, but it landed in the puke. "I'm sorry." She said. "It's okay but definitely not here." I said and took them to the pool where we had the riff off.
"Um, Aubrey, would you pick a song for us please?" I asked. "Bruno Mars, Just the Way You Are." She said. "Okay. Chloe, are you okay to take the lead?" I asked and she nodded.
"Hands in." Aubrey said and we actually did it right. Chloe made a weird sound. "What was that?" Fat Amy asked. "I don't know, I never made that sound before." She said. "Yo, but with your messed up vocal cords, you could hit the bass notes." Cynthia Rose suggested and it was a good idea. "Do you know what this means? Yes, Lilly?" Aubrey asked since she put up her hand. "I think I have something that can help us out." She said and we were shocked because that's the first time we've actually heard her. "Excuse me, bitch, you don't need to yell." I said jokingly and we left.
Finals
We were on standby and I saw Jesse as they were about to go on. "Hi." "Hey." "Good luck out there." I said. "Thanks. You too." He said. They were done and I clapped so hard that my hands hurt. Benji looked so happy to finally be a Treble too. "I love you, awesome nerds." I said. "Yeah. You guys are the best. Even though some of you are pretty thin, I think that you all have fat hearts and that's what matters. Let's just smash this, okay?" Amy asked.
As we were performing, I spotted Jesse looking down. I started singing Don't You Forget About Me. "As I walk on by, will you call my name?" I sang and I saw him slightly nod and smile. I did the fist movement that Bender did, and he did too. After the performance, he was the first one to stand up and start clapping before everyone else did. I went to him right away. "Told you. Endings are the best part." He said and I chuckled. "You're such a weirdo." I said then kissed him. "You have no idea how long I was waiting for that. I was getting impatient." He said and I laughed.
