"I brought you here because you're supposed to be the responsible adult and stop our daughter getting in the way, but I think you're actually worse than she is." Hannah sighed in exasperation, but she struggled to keep the smile off her face as she said it.
She'd been battling her way through her rehearsal and sound check, despite the constant interruptions from Isla and Lando as the two of them chased eachother around on the stage, tried to join in with the dancers and just generally got in the way.
It would've been annoying had it not have been so cute. Although the look on Alice's face suggested she was probably finding it a lot more annoying than she was cute.
Lando didn't answer her, just running past her again, hands out stretched as he pretended to try and catch Isla. She giggled, hiding behind Hannah's leg for a moment before she took off up the stage again.
"They're not going to do that during the actual show, right?" Alice laughed, shaking her head.
"I'd like to say no, but honestly with those two there's no telling." Hannah laughed. "Sounds all good and at least I don't have to try and dance this time."
"You feeling alright?" Alice asked.
Hannah nodded. "Yeah I'm just gigantic and very tired." She yawned. "I'm definitely not doing anything else after this. I might finally take Lando's advice and sit down and rest."
Alice snorted with laughter. "You and I both know that's going to last all of five minutes. You don't do sitting and resting."
"I would if this baby would let me." Hannah sighed, fingers rubbing absentmindedly over her bump as the baby kicked her in the ribs yet again. "I'm so tired."
"Well, once you've done your set you can lay down and sleep for a week if you like." Alice suggested. "Although looking at that little bundle of energy maybe not." Her eyes wandered up the stage to where Isla was still running up and down, managing to evade Lando, much to her and his amusement.
"Lando's home for a while now. He can do all the running around and I'll sit and put my feet up." Hannah shrugged. "It'll entertain her and make him happy. It's a win win."
"Speaking of sitting around and putting your feet up...." Alice said slowly.
"Whatever you're about to suggest that I do, I really can't Alice." Hannah shook her head. "I'm exhausted. I want to spend some time with Isla and Lando before the baby comes."
"I don't actually need you to do anything." Alice said. "Just agree with me and I'll sort it."
"Agree with you about what?"
"Releasing that song you wrote. You've already recorded it, you don't have to do anything at all." She suggested. "I know you said you didn't want to, but I listened to it again this morning and it's such a good song, Hannah."
"I know, I know I just... people will ask too many questions. I don't want to bring that all up again. I don't know how Lando would feel about it either." Hannah shook her head.
"I did think about this." Alice nodded. "But no one has to know when you wrote it. We could say it's just an extra track that didn't make the last album. As far as the world knows you could've written it about Joe."
"I don't know." Hannah sighed. "I'll think about it, okay? I need to just somehow make it through tonight without messing this up before I can think about anything else."
"That's fair enough." Alice nodded, glancing at her watch. "We should get going really, we're already running late."
"Yeah, okay." Hannah nodded, turning around to where her husband and daughter were still racing eachother up and down the stage. "Come on you two, we have to go now!" She yelled up the stage.
