In spite of the fact she was mad at him, Hannah had still sat and watched the race on TV. She always did, no matter what time zone it was occurring in. She liked to watch him and know he'd finished in one piece.

This time though, the post race interviews were the most painful part for her to watch.

She'd gone and slept in the spare room last night, and waited until she heard him leave before she got up and drove over to her parents for the day. Cisca had taken Isla to the track to watch Lando, her parents had also gone to watch, and so she'd had their house to herself to collect her thoughts as she watched him on tv.

She couldn't help feel guilty as he stood in front of the camera, sweaty and exhausted at the end of the race. He looked like he hadn't slept at all the night before, and to be fair neither had she.

Usually he'd be all smiles, joking around with the interviewer about the race, but he was flat and looked like he wasn't even listening to what was being said to him at one point. She saw Charlotte leaning into the frame to prod him when he just stared blankly at the interviewer.

"Sorry, what was the question?" He mumbled, waiting for the interviewer to repeat it.

"I said we've seen your wife, daughter and parents in the paddock this weekend. Does it help, knowing you've got that support behind you?"

Hannah felt like someone had stuck a knife in her heart. She was mad at him, but she still should've been there to support him. She had no doubt there would already be rumours going around online about her absence today.

"I'm incredibly lucky to have such a supportive family." Lando nodded. "It's always special having them here. I uh... Hannah couldn't be here today, but I'm sure she'll be watching at home. I'm so thankful for all the support she's given me over the years, I wouldn't be here without her and the sacrifices she made to allow me to do this."

"Finally, there's been a lot of rumours and talk about a possible contract extension for you with McLaren. What can you tell us?" The interviewer asked.

Lando shifted awkwardly in front of the camera, shooting a pleading look at Charlotte as though she could make the question disappear.

"Look..." he said eventually. "There's been discussions about it, obviously. Nothings been signed, nothing's set in stone. It's a decision for me and my family to make together. Zak and the team understand that."

Hannah let out a quiet laugh at his words. Was he actually planning to discuss it with her at all if they'd not had this argument last night? And Zak clearly didn't understand what a wedge it was driving between them at all if he was asking Lando to commit to another three years.

It was stupid though. They both knew he was going to end up signing the contract eventually, no matter what they discussed. As much as Hannah didn't doubt that he loved her, and he loved Isla, he also loved racing.

It was an impossible choice, as was the one she seemed to be facing between her family and her career.

She was distracted for a moment by the arrival of Alice at the front door. She got up to let her in, tearing her eyes away from the tv screen.

"What are we doing here?" Alice asked as she stepped inside. "And why aren't you at the race?"

"I uh... me and Lando had a bit of an argument about things. I needed to clear my head." Hannah shrugged. "Come in."

"Okaaaay." Alice answered nervously. She didn't know what to do with this information. She'd only ever known Hannah and Lando to be madly in love, grinning at each other like two idiotic teenagers. The idea of them fighting was an unsettling one. She felt a little bit like a kid who'd just been told her parents were getting a divorce.
