"You'll be getting discharged today, Miss," the doctor said sweetly. Opening up the blinds for the day. Shining light on my face. It was a beautiful day out, and it had been the last week I've been in here.
"That's nice," I said with a smile, adjusting my paper bracelet on my wrist that read, 'ALLERGY'. Which told the doctors I had an allergy to one of the meds here. "When are visiting hours today?"
"Visiting hours have already opened," she told me, which put a frown on his face. Ever since I was admitted to the hospital, Tyler has been here the minute the visiting hours were open.
"How long have they been open?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
"About an hour, ma'am," she said, looking down at the watch that was on her wrist. I let out a long sigh as she left the room. He hasn't been this late since I was admitted. Which worries me, but also makes me feel horrible. A sudden turn happened, and I heard heavy footsteps enter the room. I looked up with a smile, expecting to see Tyler. But it was Josh. I frowned slightly as he came and sat down by my bed. I didn't want him to know about this. Especially after what I told him on the roof.
"Hey," he greeted. A dimply smile shown on his face.
"Hey," I said, wanting to pull down my arm sleeve more and more. It was showing my upper arm so obviously.
"Sorry Tyler isn't here," he said, his face turning into a frown. That frown turned my stomach into knots.
"Yeah, why isn't he here?" I asked. The tone of voice I was using twisted my stomach more and more.
"He had a nightmare last night and woke up sobbing and freaking out," Josh stopped for a second and continued. "I found him in the treehouse, looking through a huge sketchbook, just sobbing his eyes out."
It was obviously my sketchbook he was looking through. "What was the nightmare?" I asked curiously. Josh's face dimmed.
"I promised I wouldn't tell you, but he said that it was from what you said in your sleep last night, before he left," he said, looking down at his hands.
"What did I say?" I asked, putting to the side the fact that Tyler was keeping something from me. Especially something like this.
"I guess you said something about the future, loving him a lot," he said, "it was all jumbled really."
I nodded, biting my lip. I wish I knew exactly what I said, then I might have an idea of the dream. "Really?" I asked, "that's kind of embarrassing."
"Yeah, he was shook up. So, I decided to come and keep you company, maybe know a little more about you," he shrugged. I smiled.
"That would be cool," I said back.
"So, what's your favorite color?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrow. I let out a small chuckle, smiling at him.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah, answer the question!" He said jokingly.
"I don't know, light blue?" I said questionably.
"Mine is red," he said proudly.
"Red is cool," I said with a joking smile on my face.
It was odd, he was a really joking person, and I liked that about him. He looked and just felt really supportive and caring. And looking like a visual teddy bear helped with that accusation.
"How often do you end up in this place?" Josh asked, his voice quieter and smaller than before. A lump quickly formed in my throat.
"Um, not very often anymore," I said quietly. "This is my first time being in here for...you know, in a long time," I said, playing with my fingers and avoiding eye contact.
"It sucks that you did it after our talk," he said. "I don't know, I just feel I could stop it," he shrugged. He glanced up, his eyes watery.
"Josh, please don't cry," I said, putting my hand on his shoulder. "It wasn't your fault."
He nodded, not saying a word until the nurse came in.
"Miss, you're ready to be discharged," she nodded to me, smiling, then walking out again. I let out a sigh.
"Wanna hand me my bag?" I asked Josh. He nodded again, leaning to the foot of my bed and handing me my bag as he exited the room. "Oh, Josh, can you drive me?"
He smiled, "yeah."
I got up, stripping and putting on the clothes that Tyler brought me days earlier. I looked in the mirror by the corner, pulling my hair into a ponytail and grabbing my phone and belongings. Walking out to meet Josh in the hall. We walked to the exit in silence. Him leading me to his car. I got in the passenger.
"He might not be home, he might be at my house. We were setting up for band practice when I came," he said, making an obvious confused look come on my face.
"Band practice?" I asked, turning to him. He glanced over. An identical confused look shown on his face.
"Yeah, for our band," he answered. I stayed silent for a few seconds.
"Your band?" I asked. Lowering my voice slightly.
"Yeah, we've been in a band for almost a year now. We actually have a meeting this Wednesday with a record deal," he said. A huge smile shown on his face. You could tell he was so proud of it.
"A record deal. Oh my god," I said, a fake smile shown on my face as I leaned back to my seat. God, it scared me. And made me happy at the same time. What if they get signed? They would have to move. Most likely far away. And i'm don't think I can lose him yet.
