My chest fell up and down drastically, and I gazed around my surroundings. Futher ahead, was the cafe Sunoo worked at.
It was still open, so I headed over and found myself a seat near the window. Sighing, I plopped myself down on the leathered seat.
Letting my chin rest in my palm, I glanced out into the dark night, recalling everything that happened. Meeting him, those words, the fight, now this.
I shut my eyes closed, trying to ease away the headache forming.Han wasn't the type of person to give up, so knowing him, he'll come after me again soon.
My mind suddenly flashed to the fight scene, and Heeseung's glare at Han made me peek open an eye slightly.
He protected me, and if it weren't for him, I would have to deal with a drunk and oblivious Han.The last look I saw from him was a concerned glance, before he tried lunging back at Han. I should thank him, and maybe try not to get involved in any of these parties ever again.
Just then, the jingle of the bells jerked me out of my trance, and I snapped my head up to see who had entered. My eyes widened when a familiar tall figure with messy black hair entered, his panicky gaze bouncing around the cafe.
One of the waiters was about to approach him when his eyes met mine, and he immediately strode over to me.
My heart rate sped up when Heeseung slipped into the seat beside me, and immediately grabbed my hands."Jake! God, are you okay? Did he hit you or touch you? Oh, that motherfucker..." he started grumbling colourful words underneath his breath.
A laugh bubbled up in my stomach, escaping my lips. The sound made Heeseung look up to meet my eyes, and I shook my head. "I'm fine..physically at least. Thanks for standing up for me just now."
His concerned gaze softened. "You're welcome. You didn't deserve all those words and things. And he needed a piece of my mind for touching my friend."
He grinned cheekily and I chuckled.
Then his smile fell and he asked in a whisper, "what did he say though?"
I sighed and ran a hand through my hair, styling it to the side so I could see clearer. "He...called me a gold digger, and said stuff about..me not being good in-"
Heeseung's gasp told me he understood. I glanced at him and shrugged.
"How dare he.."I turned to reassure him, and saw the same look I saw back at the party. Clenched jaw, hot, flame flashing in his eyes and chewed lips. Like he was thinking of the many ways to kill Han.
It was...pretty hot, not going to lie.
I blushed and snapped my head back to face the window.
We sat there in silence for a while, until I felt Heeseung's hand on my shoulder. I peeked over it to meet his eyes, and he squeezed it gently.
"If that guy ever bothers you ever again, please tell me."
I bit my lip, flickering my eyes towards the table.
"Jaeyun, look at me."
My heart thumped harder against my chest at my Korean name. My gaze connected with Heeseung's again and he smiled.
"Please? I don't want you hurt like this ever again. You don't deserve a guy like him..and he shouldn't be harassing you like that," his eyes trailed a fallen strand of hair that fell in front of my face.
Tucking it back, my breath hitched when he his eyes dropped back to mine, and he left his hand behind my ear. "I'll always be beside you. Through good and bad. But you must let me be with you. Don't push me away. Promise?"
Promise...
"I'll always be by your side, I promise."
I sucked in my lips, remembering those exact words from Han. And now they were coming out from Heeseung. I know he didn't mean it in that way, but I didn't want to hurt him if I happen to break my promise.
And I don't want to hurt myself.
I shakily gazed into Heeseung's calm, collected, and sincere eyes. He smiled softly, tucking a few more strands of hair as I pondered deeply, while trying not to sink into his touch.
I should accept it...
My imagination brought me to Heeseung's betrayed face, his eyes welled up and nose red when he realises I can't keep his promise. When he realises I'm not going to be here forever.
But you only have a year with him...
And I wanted to cherish it. I liked Heeseung, I really did. But with my current situation, I shouldn't be with anyone. It'll just hurt him.
I opened my mouth to decline the offer but something different slipped out and my brain wasn't enough to process it.
"Okay. I promise."
A huge grin appeared on Heeseung's lips and he grabbed me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around his back, patting it slowly as slow, dread hit me in the head.
I couldn't do this. I needed to tell him I was going to move.
When he released me, I chanted in my mind to tell him. Just tell him.
"Hee-"
"We should go. It's getting late..our friends have gone already," Heeseung glanced at his phone, and my mouth snapped shut.
He tilted his head. "Sorry, were you about to say something?"
I quickly shook my head. "N-no! Naur, yeah everything is fine!"
He stared down at me with stilt eyes. I gulped down nervously, and he let it go. As we headed out, he mumbled to me in my ear,
"Remember, no hiding."
A guilty heat spread all over my body, but I nodded slowly.
Just then, he took my hand gently, and my head snapped up to face him.He raised an eyebrow. "What? Friends can't hold hands?"
"No, of course! I just didn't expect it, sorry.."
Heeseung chuckled. "It's fine. And relax! It's me! Not that stupid ex of yours.."
He mumbled so more colourful words until one caught my attention.I craned my neck to glance at him. "Did you just say 'your puppy'?" I asked, amusingly.
He choked on his spit and shook his head. "What? No! You're hearing things! Who would I call, 'my puppy'?"
He started clearing his throat and I laughed."Aw! Don't be shy! Tell me who it is!" I insisted, shaking Heeseung's arm.
He kept shaking his head, and giving the universal 'shh' sign. Eventually, I gave up, sulking as we walked back to our apartment.
Heeseung glanced down at me with an exasperated sigh and rolled his eyes."Fine, one clue."
My ears perked up and I clapped my hands gleefully as we entered the lift.
"What? What is it?" I demanded impatiently, and we walked out the lift door all the way down the hallway.
Only when the both of us reached our doors, did he lean down and whisper ever so softly into my ear.
"He lives one nerf war away from me."
