Jake's POV
Inhale. Exhale.

Here we go.

"Jake? You okay?" I heard Heeseung's soft whisper, squeezing my hand.

I gave him a grim smile while nodding. "Yep. Totally fine. We're all good."

The taller eyed me. "Don't lie."

I groaned after that. "Fine. It's just—he's pretty hard to persuade—"

"Jaeyun. Babe. Your grandfather would love you for who you are, there's no need to hide from him," my boyfriend assured, gently grabbing hands. He planted a kiss on my fingers before saying, "and if anything goes wrong, I'm right here."

I bit my lip to hold back the lump forming in my throat. "Thanks Hee. I love you."

Heeseung brought me closer to kiss my forehead. "I love you too, Jaeyun."

We've reached Grandfather Yun's place, right in front of his doorstep.
Slowly, I let Heeseung's hands go, while Mark helped opened the door. With one last glance, the taller winked, mouthed, 'atta boy' and the door closed right in my face.

I gave a glare towards Mark, who sniffed.

"Me when?" He sighed, and I laughed softly.

"You'll have your turn. Now it's time to face my doom," I puckered my lips while we walked up the spiral stairs. Approaching my grandfather's office was somewhat always comforting, yet nerve wrecking. I never knew which side to be on.

"Well, this is it," Mark announced from my right, trailing his gaze up the huge doors, "I'll see you across the rainbow my friend."

I slapped him on the head. "I'm not dying dumbass. Just—barge in if you hear me yell 'but why?!' Got it?"

I snickered to myself at the ridiculous thought, and Mark followed along with a, "Roger that, sire!"

He left me standing alone then, and I took in a breath. I can do this. Grandfather isn't scary, he's just a hardworking old man. That's right, no need to be afraid.

I push the big doors open, and my footsteps could be heard softly against the carpeted floor. Every sound matched my slowed heartbeat, and I eventually reached my grandfather's desk.

The old former CEO sat in his chair, whitish-grey hair slicked back while he read the day's paper. Don't ask why he's reading it at night.
He glanced at me from behind the light-weight paper, then back at his reading.

"Jaeyun, my grandchild! To what pleasure do I owe you today?"

I wanted to roll my eyes, but stopped myself. Respect your elders, Jake. This is not fucking school, no more.

"I..I want to confirm something that may or may not be good news to you," I responded lowly. Good news your ass, you're practically ruining his company.

My grandfather set his paper down and raised a perfect eyebrow at me. "This late? Must be urgent then. Let me guess...business?"

I shook my head. "Something personal."

He frowned. But more towards confusion. "Then why excatly am I involved?"

I inhaled a breath. Here we go.

"Grandfather, I love you, and I really, really don't want to be a disappointment. But, see, the thing is, I've been seeing—no, I've loved someone for so long and we finally just got together. But he lives in Korea, and I can't imagine having a long distance relationship so—"

"Jaeyun, you can step down if you want."

"No! I'm not finish! And he is just—wait what?" I widened my eyes at the amused older, who leaned back into his chair like he sort of expected that I was going to say this.

What the fuck?

"Y-you're a-allowing me to step down? Me? As in the CEO of your company NOW?" I emphasised on every single word like he was losing his hearing. No offense.

All my grandfather did was chuckle, got up, and walked over to me. "I knew you would come across this stage one day, grandson," he placed a warm hand on my shoulder, "and I understand. I used to be just like you—afraid of disappointing others and did care for myself."

He looked into the distance from his window. I tilted my head at hid words. "Did you use to love someone too?"

Grandfather sighed. "I did. And I still do. She was the best gift to me, giving me hope in my dreams," he turned to smile at me, "your grandmother sounds just like your lover. She always got me hooked around her little finger."

He laughed, like recalling old memories. "I want you to be happy, Jaeyun. And I'm perfectly healthy now, I can take over the company again. You're still young. Live the life you want with whoever you want to be with."

Tears pooled in my eyes as I—for the first time—saw who my grandfather was. I felt bad for wanting to leave him, since he could be alone.

"So...you're letting me go?" I asked cautiously, and Grandfather Yun smiled.

"Go, child. You deserve your own future. But before you do, mind if I meet this—'him', of yours?" His eyes glinted with tease while I turned beet red. Laughing as we went, I eventually invited Heeseung in, where he and my grandfather talked.

Pretty soon, we were heading off back to Korea.

I hugged Grandpa Yun one last time. "Thank you."

He chuckled. "Thank you for helping me out, Jaeyun. I'll miss you."

I grinned. "Me too."

"BITCH, don't forget about me you, asshat," Mark jumped in, tackling me into a hug as I let out a bubbled laugh.

"I'll miss you too, bub. Thanks for being friends with me," I slapped his back, while he pouted sulkily.

I had to drag him off me before Heeseung pulled him off himself.

We eventually boarded the plane, and landed safely after a few hours. Our friends waited for our arrival, and I reunited with my besties.

Jungwon and Sunoo were tackling me into hugs, Sunghoon didn't want to let me go, and I just smiled so widely, my cheeks hurt.

This was what I've wanted. Sure, it took 3 whole years, but it was worth the wait.
I peeked over at my boyfriend, who was trying to duck all of Jay's teasing and reassuring a protective brother of mine at the same time.

Giggling, I winked at him when he caught me staring.
I ran away with my friend when he gave me a warning glare, and we had fun for the rest of the day.

One year. One promise. One neighbour.

That's all it took for me to fall for someone after believing it wouldn't work out ever again.
