Eden was barely a year old, but she already could walk, well, sort of and got into all sorts of trouble. This week had been her most mischievous one yet. Which made Crowley so proud, but both him and Aziraphale had been run ragged. She was usually well behaved but lately she had been quite rambunctious.
Today was one of those days. Eden had climbed to the top of the roof and spread out her tiny wings and tried to fly. If not for Aziraphale, she would have been seriously injured. Crowley had been yelling at his plants and didn’t realized until too late that Eden had toddled away, wanting to find things to climb.
Then she got into the knife drawer, somehow, and was having a blast swinging a knife in each hand. Aziraphale nearly discorperated at the sight while Crowley snapped the knives away, replacing the knives with maracas. Now, Crowley was tending to his vegetable garden, Eden was digging with her plastic yellow shovel and her light blue bucket in a bare patch of dirt. It would eventually be used for some more vegetables, but for now it was Eden’s dig site.
Crowley would take several glances every now and then, to make sure Eden hadn’t wandered off, but he eventually got too engrossed in his task.
Eden had gotten bored and wandered throughout the garden; the various plants looked like a jungle to her. Her wings flapped with excitement as she rolled in the grass and scooped up dirt in her hands.
She giggled and squealed in delight when a group of rabbits came to join her; she had attracted several animals to the cottage. First it was one at a time, then it in small groups, and sometimes it would be in droves. When she was finally old enough to come outside, a whole drove of woodland animals had been waiting to greet her.
She playfully chased the rabbits and when Eden was too tired to run, they snuggled with her in the warm grass enjoying the soft grass and sunshine.
She must have dosed off, because the next thing she knew, Crowley had scooped her up in his slender arms and was carrying her into the cottage.
She was passed into the waiting arms of her Papa and she began to struggle. Her wings we’re flapping like a hummingbirds, the sight made Crowley cackle as Aziraphale struggled to keep the toddler from flying out of his arms.
“Young lady, you roamed the garden and now it’s time for a bath!” he said as he carried her upstairs.
Over his shoulder he called, “Tomorrow’s your turn!” Crowley’s laughter faded the further they went upstairs.
Aziraphale carried his still struggling daughter into the bathroom. The tub was filled to the brim with bubbles and her bath toys.
The sight made Eden stop struggling instantly. Aziraphale sighed in relief. “That’s more like it. Now, let’s get these dirty clothes off of you my dear.”At long last, Eden was in the tub, splashing to her heart’s content as Aziraphale washed the dirt and grime out of her hair and feathers.
“How’s my little troublemaker?” Crowley asked as he peeked his head in the bathroom.
“All clean.” Said Aziraphale has he lifted the chubby toddler out of the bath and carried her into the nursery.
With a snap of his fingers, Crowley snapped the bathroom clean as Aziraphale dressed their daughter into her star studded onesie.
Eden gazed up at her parents and smiled, her blue serpent eyes gleaming. Crowley and Aziraphale smothered her in kisses which made Eden squeal in delight. She squealed even more when Aziraphale snapped his fingers and an oatmeal cookie appeared.
As Eden munched on the cookie, Crowley was sitting in a rocking chair, Eden on his lap, reading from a book of fairytales, Aziraphale enjoying a warm cup of cocoa in a nearby chair, listening to Crowley narrate a particularly entertaining reading of Beauty and the Beast. As the story continued, the cookie disappeared, and Eden became drowsier with each passing page.
Before Crowley could get to the ending, Eden was fast asleep, her face covered in crumbs, as Aziraphale set down his mug and gently scooped up Eden and set her into her crib. Crowley followed close behind with Ducky who was also set in the crib next to Eden and together, they tucked in their daughter, gave her goodnight kisses and the left the nursery quietly, champagne waiting for them.
