Crowley was leaning against the Bentley, staring at his watch; he had been waiting for nearly an hour. Aziraphale said to wait for him outside the bookshop, which had been closed for the day. Aziraphale had to run an errand with Eden before they could meet with him and go out to dinner.
Their reservation at the Ritz wouldn’t be going anywhere of course, but he was getting a bit impatient. He wanted to be with his angel and his daughter. Eden was going to be a year old in less than twenty four hours, and he was anxious to celebrate.Especially since that her birthday party would be tomorrow…
Crowley began to pace, he wanted to give Eden an early present before they set off.
“Crowley!” a familiar voice called. Crowley whirled around and he smiled at the sight of Aziraphale, pushing Eden in her stroller.
Crowley couldn’t wait any longer and he practically sprinted to his family. He gave Aziraphale and Eden kisses. “How are my angel and birthday girl doing?”
“We are doing splendid dear, you must see Eden’s birthday outfit!” Aziraphale leaned down and lifted Eden out of the stroller, revealing the outfit she was wearing.
Eden was wearing a sailor’s outfit. Aziraphale placed a matching sailor hat on Eden’s head. “Isn’t she precious?”
Crowley wanted to discorporate. Eden was absolutely adorable in this outfit even though dressing your child as a sailor had gone out of style for about one hundred years, it was even more adorable because Eden looked up at him and held out her arms, signaling that she wanted her Daddy to hold her.
Without hesitating, Crowley scooped her up in his arms and she wrapped her chubby little arms around his neck. “Crowley dear, are you alright? You haven’t said anything.”
Crowley hugged his baby girl close, her blue serpentine eyes gleaming. “I need a moment.” He rasped. Aziraphale smiled, getting choked up.
“Oh Crowley.” He said softly as Crowley quickly wiped the tears away. “M’fine.”
“I got you something Eden, an early birthday present.” He handed Eden back to Aziraphale and he ducked inside the Bentley and emerged with a small parcel wrapped with a bright red ribbon.
Eden was immediately captivated by the red ribbon and she accepted the package when her Daddy gave it to her. She easily tore off the ribbon and tried to wrap it around her wrist.
Crowley helped her and tied it around her wrist like a bracelet, and then he unwrapped the parcel, revealing what was inside.
Inside was a pair of tiny sunglasses. Eden clapped her hands with glee. She loved to try to wear her Daddy’s sunglasses, even though they would always fall off her head.
“I got these just for you Queenie. These won’t fall off and they’re just like mine, well, they are a bit different, but I can tell you like them.” Eden grinned and clapped her hands when Crowley put the glasses on her, they were a perfect fit.
The glasses we’re two large black circles, they would be perfect for concealing her eyes. Fortunately, nobody had seemed to notice Eden’s bright blue snake eyes, which was a relief at least, although she would only need to wear them when necessary. He and Aziraphale couldn’t bear to have Eden’s beautiful eyes hidden all the time.
Crowley whipped out his phone and he took several pictures, they would be printed out and placed in the scrapbooks later.
Crowley then pulled his family into his embrace, “I love you my angel. My Queenie.” Eden burbled happily as Aziraphalereplied, “We love you more.”
Crowley felt a lump in his throat and he hugged them tighter. “No fair. That’s my line.”
The family huddled for a few more minutes then they pulled apart when Crowley realized that something was chewing on his thumb. It was Eden.
“I think my little predator is hungry!” He gently freed his thumb as Aziraphale said, “Quite right, we’ve kept her waiting long enough. I hope we haven’t lost our reservation.”
“No worries angel, our table is miraculously still waiting!” replied Crowley as he began to buckle Eden in her car seat.
“Splendid! I can’t wait for everyone to see Eden in her little outfit! They’re going to love it!”
“Of course they will!” Crowley agreed. Eden was quite popular at the Ritz, she was well behaved when it came to restaurants. Crowley believed because she knew that food would be coming.
He was also quite excited because he and the Ritz staff had a special surprise planned for Eden in honor of her birthday.
He looked back at Eden, “Ready to cast off Little Sailor?”
Eden burbled in reply, “Ga Ga!” and off they went.
