The room fell silent. Felix’s eyes widened, and Hyunjin’s usual calm expression shifted into something darker. Chan’s face remained composed, but there was a flicker of concern in his eyes.
Sol continued, her voice barely above a whisper. “I was hiding in an alley. I saw him... cutting the man, enjoying it... I couldn’t move. I was too scared. And then he looked at me... I thought he saw me.”
Felix instinctively reached for Sol’s hand, squeezing it gently. “What happened? Did he come after you?”
Sol shook her head, her voice shaky as she recalled the terrifying moments. “No... somehow, he didn’t find me. But that night... it never left me. The way he looked, how calm he was as he... killed that man.”
Chan leaned forward slightly, his voice low but steady. “You never told anyone?”
Sol shook her head again, her eyes downcast. “No. I didn’t know who to trust. And then... today, when I saw Changbin oppa, it all came back. The man I saw... he looked just like him.”
Felix’s eyes softened with understanding. “You thought Changbin was the killer?”
“I don’t know,” Sol admitted. “But the resemblance... it was so close. I panicked. I couldn’t help it.”
Chan nodded, sitting beside her. “Yeah. We think it’s time we explained everything.”
Felix sat down on her other side, giving her a reassuring smile. “What you saw back then in the alley... that was Changbin hyung .”
Sol’s heart pounded in her chest as she stared at Felix. She had suspected it, but hearing the confirmation made it all too real. “But... why? Why was he... doing that?”
Chan sighed, exchanging a glance with Hyunjin. “Because, Sol, our family... we’re all involved in the mafia. Except Yuri—she doesn’t know anything. But the rest of us... this is our life.”
Sol’s breath caught in her throat, her mind racing. She had always suspected there was something dark lurking beneath the surface of the Kim family, but hearing it laid out so plainly felt like a punch to the gut. “So, you’re saying... everyone? Even Felix oppa?”
Felix gave her a small, sad smile. “Yeah, even me. We were born into this, Sol. It’s part of who we are.”
Sol stared down at her hands, her thoughts a chaotic whirlwind. “And Changbin oppa... he’s just like that? Like what I saw?”
Hyunjin spoke up, his voice calm but firm. “Changbin is part of the family, just like us. What you saw that night... it’s part of the business. But he didn’t know you were there. He didn’t mean for you to see that.”
Felix squeezed her hand gently. “Sol, I know it’s a lot to take in. But you’re part of this family now. And we protect each other. No matter what.”
Sol blinked back tears, her mind racing. “But what if... what if that boy had seen me? What if Changbin oppa had seen me? He would’ve...”
Chan shook his head firmly. “No, Sol. Changbin would never hurt you. None of us would. You’re our sister, and that means we protect you. Always.”
Felix nodded in agreement. “Family means we stick together, no matter what.”
Sol looked between her brothers, still struggling to process everything. “So... you’re saying it’s normal for you all to be... involved in this kind of thing? Killing people?”
Hyunjin’s face was unreadable, but his voice was steady. “It’s not normal, but it’s necessary. This is how our world works. But you don’t have to be involved in any of it, Sol. We’ll keep you safe.”
