Friday Night

Yuri sighed, hugging her knees as she stared at the moon. The soft glow of the night did nothing to calm the storm inside her.

It wasn’t like she was feeling bad… but this uneasiness—this creeping thought—wouldn’t leave her alone.

"How long until everyone finds out?"

No matter how much she tried to live as just Kim Yuri, reality wouldn’t change. She wasn’t their real daughter.

What would happen when people found out?

Would her friends still see her the same way? Would they still laugh with her, stand by her side? Or would they start looking at her differently, whispering behind her back?

Would they call her "the girl who doesn’t belong"?

She didn’t care.

…At least, that’s what she told herself.

But the thought of being treated like an outsider—of being reminded that she wasn’t really a Kim—sent a strange ache through her chest.

She knew her family loved her. She knew they saw her as one of their own.

But would the world let her forget that she was just an outsider they took in?

Yuri shut her eyes, gripping her arms tightly.

She hated this feeling.

She hated that she cared so much.

Yuri flinched slightly when she felt a warm hand wrap around hers.

She turned to see her parents sitting beside her, their expressions filled with concern.

Her mother, Jiwon, gently wiped the tears from her cheek. “Why is my girl crying, huh?” she asked, her voice soft but firm.

Her father, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. His sharp gaze darkened as he cracked his knuckles. “Tell me, princess. Who hurt you? I swear, I’ll break their bones, rip them apart, and make them regret ever being born.”

Yuri let out a small, breathy laugh at her dad’s over-the-top reaction. Even now, he’s just as dramatic.

But feeling their warmth, their unwavering presence—she could no longer hold it in.

With a shaky breath, she finally let it out. All of it.

The creeping thoughts, the fear of being an outsider, the uncertainty of how the world would see her once the truth came out.

Silence settled between them for a moment after she finished.

Then—

“Dummy.”

Her mother flicked her forehead lightly, making Yuri blink in surprise.

“You’re our daughter, you silly girl. From the day you were born, you’ve been ours. Do you really think we’d let something as stupid as blood change that?”

Her father nodded, his expression softening as he ruffled her hair. “You’re no different from Sol. You and her were born on the same day, in the same place. Like twins. Do you think we’d ever let the world believe otherwise?”

Yuri’s lips trembled, her heart swelling with warmth.

“But…” she hesitated. “What if people find out? What if they treat me differently?”

Her mother cupped her face, forcing Yuri to look straight into her eyes. “Then they’ll deal with me.”

Her father scoffed, crossing his arms. “They’ll deal with all of us.”
