The luxurious hotel suite was quiet except for the faint sound of the city below. Miss Shin sat on a plush armchair, a glass of wine in her hand, her face twisted with barely concealed frustration. Sumin perched delicately on the sofa, her innocent facade firmly in place as she twirled a strand of her hair.“That day at the hospital,” Sumin began, her voice soft yet calculated. “That rich man who handed us the money… who do you think he is?”
Mr. Shin scoffed, pacing near the window with his hands stuffed into his pockets. “Probably just another idiot she managed to manipulate. That monster’s good at making people feel sorry for her pathetic existence.”
Miss Shin sneered, setting her glass down with a clink. “Manipulate? Please. She doesn’t have the brains for that. More likely, he’s some rich fool she spread her legs for. Why else would someone like that stick his neck out for a filthy creature like her?”
Sumin let out a mock gasp, placing a hand over her chest. “Mother, such language! You make it sound like she’s capable of charming anyone.” She giggled, her sweet tone masking her venom. “She’s always been good at playing the victim, though. Crying those crocodile tears, making people pity her. Maybe she pulled the same act on him.”
Mr. Shin turned sharply, his face contorted with anger. “Pity won’t save her forever. She’ll slip up, and when she does, we’ll make sure she pays for humiliating us.”
Miss Shin’s eyes gleamed with malice as she leaned back in her chair. “I warned that useless girl the day we took her in. She would never be one of us. She should’ve stayed hidden, like the disgrace she is. But no, she had to crawl back into our lives, ruining our peace.”
Sumin tilted her head, her lips curling into a sly smile. “Do you think she’ll come after us?”
Miss Shin let out a cold laugh. “That child? She couldn’t even defend herself when we threw her out. She’s weak, just like her pathetic excuse for a mother. If she thinks she can challenge us, she’ll learn the hard way what it means to cross this family.”
Mr. Shin’s voice dropped to a dangerous tone. “That money… it’s a debt she can’t repay. It’s time we remind her where she belongs. Maybe it’s time to dig up a few skeletons from her past and see how far her so-called protectors are willing to go for her.”
Sumin’s innocent mask slipped for a moment, revealing the same cruel glint in her eyes as the rest of her family. “I’ll play nice for now. If we cross paths again, I’ll make sure she regrets ever showing her face.”
Miss Shin raised her glass in mock celebration. “To Sol. May her misery continue to fuel our entertainment.”
Their laughter filled the room, dripping with malice as the seeds of their next plot against Sol began to take root.

Five days later
Sunjae entered his grand mansion in Seoul, his face calm but his mind racing. He had spent days tracing every lead about Sol, only to end up with fragments of information: her name, where she once lived, but no clue where she was now. Frustration simmered beneath his composed exterior.
As he sank into the sofa, Choi Seung Cheol—S.Coups, his ever-dramatic secretary—stormed into the room with his usual flair.
S.Coups flopped onto a chair, throwing his arm over his eyes like the lead in a tragic play. “When we left this city, I thought life would be simple. But no, we come back, and suddenly you have a mystery girl and I…” He paused dramatically.
