A few weeks later...
It had taken weeks of planning, begging, and bringing, and finally, the Kim family hadn’t managed a family outing in years. But here they were, standing at the entrance of a bustling amusement park. The scent of popcorn, the sounds of rides clattering, and kids laughing filled the air as they all entered—some more enthusiastic than others. All of them parted from each other in groups of two.
Felix, as usual, was the first to dive in. The moment Felix spotted The Death Spiral roller coaster, he was like a kid in a candy store, eyes wide with excitement. He grabbed Chan’s arm, pulling him along toward the line.
“Chan! Come on, this one looks insane!” Felix shouted, already bouncing on his feet.
Chan gave a wary look at the towering ride. “You sure about this, Felix? You know what happened last time.”
Felix waved him off. “That was a fluke! I’m fine now.”
But, as expected, it wasn’t fine. The moment the ride ended, Felix was slumped over in his seat, pale as a ghost. When they finally unbuckled, he stumbled off, barely managing to stay on his feet.
Chan watched, amused but slightly concerned. “You alright, Felix? You look like you just saw your own funeral.”
Felix, trying to regain his balance, groaned. “I might... need to lie down...”
Hyunjin, ever the opportunist, poked Felix’s cheek with a grin and whispered in his ear, “How’s the big, tough mafia man now, huh? Not so scary on a roller coaster, are you?”
Felix shot him a weak glare. “Never... again.”
Chan just shook his head, muttering under his breath, “How is this guy in the mafia...?”
While Felix was recovering, Yuri had her eyes set on the carnival game booths. She tugged Hyunjin along, determined to win the giant stuffed bear hanging at the dart-throwing stand.
“Hyunjin oppa, watch and learn. I’m about to show you how it’s done,” Yuri said confidently, grabbing a dart.
Hyunjin raised an eyebrow, smirking as he picked up his own dart. “You think you’ve got this? Please, I was born for this.”
Ten minutes later, Hyunjin was holding two tiny consolation prizes—a sad excuse for toys. Meanwhile, Yuri was parading around with a giant bear almost half her size, a triumphant smile plastered on her face.
Hyunjin stared at his small stuffed toy, frowning. “This game’s rigged. I should’ve won that.”
Yuri laughed, clutching her bear. “Maybe next time, Hyunjin. Maybe next time.” He smiled, looking at his sister. If he wanted, he could win everything, but he can't get his sister's happiness, so he loses purposely so he could be happy.
Away from the chaos of the carnival games, Sol and Changbin found themselves walking toward the haunted house. The towering structure loomed ahead, and Sol couldn’t help but glance sideways at Changbin.
“Think you can handle this, Changbin oppa?” she teased, noticing his slight hesitation.
Changbin straightened up, trying to appear unbothered. “I’ve seen scarier things in real life. This is nothing.”
However, as they exited the haunted house, Changbin’s usually calm demeanor was slightly shaken, his eyes still wide from the jump scares. Sol, noticing his unease, couldn’t help but laugh softly under her breath.
“You alright?” she teased.
Changbin cleared his throat, avoiding eye contact. “I’m fine. Totally fine.”
