A week had passed since the illusion incident, and Kirby was released from the local hospital. The staff members waved goodbye as the pink trainer grabbed Togetic and Munna.
The morning sun shone brightly, and a single Butterfree flew across the sky, chirping to the tune of a familiar melody. Something the pink child had heard years ago in a garden of marigolds.
"Kirby! Glad you're feeling better!" Parasol called out from a distance, "Come on! We'll guide you to the Gym for your next badge!"
Last one there's a rotten Exeggcute! Gooey signed with a friendly grin.
"Huh? W-Wait up!" Kirby called out.
The trio dashed across the town, passing many citizens on their front lawns enjoying the new day.
When they arrived at the Pokemon Gym, the trio spotted Dyna Blade birdwatching on the roof. She scribbled away in her mini journal before seeing the three trainers waving to her.
"Oh! Welcome!" Dyna Blade's Xatu teleported her onto the ground, "Kirby, are you feeling well enough for the match?"
"Of course! Whenever you say it's okay, I'll take you on in a match!"
Dyna Blade chuckled at Kirby's enthusiasm as everyone entered the stadium. The room was surrounded by titanium glass windows, and the wooden floor shimmered in the morning light.
"Alright!" The woman shouted, "Since you have a single badge, this will be a double battle with two Pokemon only. Ready?"
"Ready! Togetic and Munna, let's go!"
The Happiness and Dream Eater Pokemon appeared side by side.
"Excellent rare finds! Now, say hello to Noctowl and Fletchinder!"
The Night Owl and Ember Pokemon cawed with pride, spreading their gorgeous wings. The pink trainer scanned the two birds with their Pokedex.
"Both are Level 21... Noctowl's ability is Insomnia, and Fletchinder's ability is Flame Body. Okay! I'm ready!"
"Challenger Kirby versus Leader Dyna! Battle Commence!" The announcer shouted from the sidelines.
Fletchinder and Noctowl took flight, as Togetic and Munna stuck together side-by-side.
"Noctowl, Sunny Day! Fletchinder, use Ember!"
"Munna set up a Light Screen! Togetic, dodge!"
The early morning sun brightened, giving Fletchinder's firey attack an extra boost. The ball of flame sizzled across the arena, nearly hitting Togetic. Luckily, Munna's barrier of light reflected most of the attack away.
The Ember attack nearly phased out but still made a slight dent in Togetic's health.
"Togetic! Ancient Power! Munna use Yawn on Fletchinder!"
The Happiness Pokemon levitated magical fossils from thin air and chucked them at the bird Pokemon. Noctowl and Fletchinder did their darndest to dodge, soaring across their side of the field to evade the onslaught. Fletchinder made it out safely but Noctowl was hit right on the wing.
"Noctowl, Roost! Fletchinder, Quick Attack the Munna!"
Munna was hit with a quick tackle to the head, releasing its pink mist. The Dream Eater Pokemon wasn't pleased about losing its sweet, pastel dream collection and went for a direct Hypnosis. The Ember Pokemon fell to the ground, sound asleep.
Dyna Blade's Noctowl got up and was ready to fight back.
"Togetic, Fairy Wind! Munna, don't put Noctowl to sleep! Use Imprison!"
Togetic spewed fairy dust at the Owl Pokemon for some damage. Munna stuck a red seal on Noctowl's forehead, trapping some of its psychic moves away.
"That's quite clever, Kirby! I was saving the psychic attacks for last! Noctowl, take to the air and use Fly!"
The Owl Pokemon raised itself high near the roof and charged a sky-charged tackle attack.
"Togetic! Ancient Power on Fletchinder! Munna! Use Confusion!"
Kirby's Pokemon teamed up to attack the sleeping Ember Pokemon. Munna woke up the red bird and shook its core with pure psychic energy. Togetic took the bird's shock as an opportunity for a critical hit, knocking Fletchinder back.
"Way to go Munna and Togetic! One down and one to go!" Parasol cheered.
Dyna was not surprised Fletchinder didn't evade the rock-type attack and put her hopes on Noctowl. "Use Fly!"
The Owl Pokemon dove from the tall ceiling, hitting Togetic badly but not enough to knock it out. Kirby noticed the fleeting sunlight and reacted accordingly.
"Togetic, heal with Morning Sun! Munna, use Psybeam!"
The Happiness Pokemon shimmered gold sparkles in the sunlight, recovering most of her health. Munna shot a multicoloured beam and zapped the Owl Pokemon.
"Don't let them intimidate you Noctowl! Air Slash them both!" Dyna commanded.
"Togetic and Munna! Attack!"
The Happiness and Dream Eater Pokemon combined their Fairy Wind and Psybeam. Knocking Noctowl to the ground. "Noctowl is unable to battle! Our challenger Kirby wins this match!"
Gooey and Parasol immediately ran from their seats and congratulated the fairy/psychic duo and Kirby.
Impressive Kirby! Togetic's Ancient Power and Morning Sun really came in handy! That was a win well deserved! Gooey signed happily.
"Munna was a great support for Togetic! Look at you reflecting attacks and putting Pokemon to sleep!" Parasol complemented the levitating Munna as he danced around happily.
"That was quite the battle, Kirby. I certainly did not expect someone as young as you to win on the first try!" Dyna handed Kirby her badge and a special TM disc, "This is the Feather Badge, as proof of your victory!"
"Thank you, Miss Dyna!"
Kirby held the multicoloured badge in the sunshine and smiled at its beauty.
"One more thing, It'd be wise for you to use this TM. It's my personal favourite, Roost. Your flying-type Pokemon can heal themselves in exchange for losing their flying abilities for one turn. Don't use it so lightly, or a vicious ground attack will catch you off guard,"
Kirby was distracted by the badge but nodded to be polite.
"So, Kirby. Let's head for badge number three?" Parasol asked her pink pal.
Marmalade Beaches seems like our next destination! I wonder if we'll run into Meta Knight? Gooey signed, looking carefully at his town map.
"Oh, Meta Knight? I remember him being quite a serious fellow. But don't let that scare you off. I'm sure you'll crush his challenge!" Dyna Blade waved to the trio, "Now if you'll excuse me, my kids are waiting for me to pick up their lunches. Take care!"
The tall woman walked away with pride, her feathers and sharp blue eyes gleaming in the afternoon light.
"Wow, Dyna is super cool, can't believe 'you-know-who' made me think she was a sneaky person," Parasol commented as the trio left the building.
"Miss Dyna is a very smart strategist-"
Kirby's stomach growled.
"Ah, lunchtime,"
Should we grab some chicken sandwiches before we go? Gooey asked as he browsed local online menus on his cell phone.
"Gooey, you read my mind! I really was craving a lovely, stacked chicken sandwich with a side of fries, tomato soup, a tall strawberry lemonade, and sugar cookies!"
"That's a large lunch, luckily you got a lot of league points from your Gym battle. Treat yourself to a nice big meal Kirby!"
