"Hey, Magolor!" Marx giggled. The jester made an important call as he lay low near the infamous Mauve Town, the city right before the Pokemon League. "...Did you tell the bandits the information I gave you?"
"Yes, I sent an anonymous letter to mislead them last night. I cannot wait for this to make the news!" The engineer whispered over the phone.
"Those thieves from Noir Terminus deserve what's coming to them! Did you hear they attempted to steal from Quilty Plaza's mayor a week ago?"
"I got that tidbit of information yesterday, and I have to say that was a huge mistake, considering you also didn't exactly have a graceful encounter with the Mayor and his knight..."
"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, Magolor" Marx sassily huffed.
"Watching the TV today is going to be an absolute laugh!"
The jester and engineer cackled over the phone.
...
Meanwhile, the pink trainer was preparing to earn their fifth gym badge in Q.Ripple's arena.
"I see the record states you have four badges... The rules for our battle will be two rounds of double battles. No switching, no using healing items and the level cap is 40." Queen Ripple sent out Klefki and Dachsbun for the first round. "Let us commence!"
"Gastrodon! Musharna! Show them what you've got!"
The Sea Slug and Drowsing Pokemon looked ahead with determination and barked their plans at each other. Kirby's two Pokemon nodded in agreement and awaited their trainer's orders.
"Musharna! Trick Room! Gastrodon, Rain Dance!"
"Rain Dance and Trick Room? That's a superb strategy, but are you equipped to handle this?" Ripple pushed her glasses upwards, "Dachsbun, Thunder Wave! Klefki, use Torment!"
Dachsbun attempted to move first but was stopped by the weird effects of Trick Room and the slippery arena. The Key Ring Pokemon taunted Musharna and Gastrodon, preventing them from using the same attacks frequently.
Dachsbun's Thunder Wave was so slow it was easily dodged by Musharna.
"We still have the rain! Musharna, Protect! Gastrodon, Surf!"
"Dachsbun, Trailblaze! Klefki, Light Screen!"
Gastrodon led the turn with a powerful wave of water that washed the Dog and Key Ring Pokemon off their feet.
Dachsbun couldn't get a proper footing with Trail Blaze and missed. Klefki attempted to reduce the water move's force, but the water flooded the entire field and did its intended damage.
"Musharna! Psychic on Dachsbun! Gastrodon use Mud Shot on Klefki!"
The Key Ring Pokemon was tossed into the air, unable to fight back, and was sent back to its Poke Ball. Dachsbun held on with a sliver of health but wasn't doing well with Trick Room's ongoing effect.
"That was a job well done! Now, Azumarill! Take advantage of the rain and use Aqua Tail!" Ripple ordered with grace.
The Aqua Rabbit Pokemon took Klefki's place and swung its tail around. Gastrodon and Musharna were able to dodge, thanks to Trick Room.
"Musharna! Swift! Gastrodon! Use a Sludge Bomb on Azumarill!"
The Drowsing Pokemon sent stars flying at both of Ripple's Pokemon for some chip damage. Gastrodon swiftly sent a wave of poison at Azumarill for super-effective damage.
"Trailblaze, Azumarill! Dachsbun, you too!"
The Dog and Aqua Rabbit stomped in place together and rammed into Gastrodon for a critical hit. The Sea Slug Pokemon tumbled backwards and was out of the fight.
"Great job Gastrodon. Let's get you to rest up," Kirby's eyes twinkled with hope as he sent out Altaria, "Sunny Day!"
The Humming Pokemon spread her wings and illuminated the entire field, draining all the rain and mud that coated the ground.
"Now, Musharna! Light Screen again!"
The Drowsing Pokemon shielded himself and Altaria from high-damage special attacks.
"Azumarill, Ice Beam! Dachsbun, Bite!"
The Aqua Rabbit's weakened Ice Beam hit Altaria. The Humming Pokemon attempted to dodge, but her wing was caught in the attack. Luckily, because of Sunny Day and Light Screen, the super-effective attack didn't do crazy amounts of damage.
Dachsbun attempted to latch onto Musharna but was out-sped and knocked out with a Psybeam.
"Florges! Come out and use Misty Terrain!" Ripple commanded.
"Altaria, use Trailblaze on Azumarill! Musharna, use Psychic!" Kirby called out to his team.
The Drowsing Pokemon held Azumarill still in place and began shocking the Aqua Rabbit with psychic energy. Altaria paced herself and quickly rammed into Azumarill, knocking it out with a grassy kick to the face. Florges was unamused her teammate was knocked out and stood her ground.
"Florges! Dazzling Gleam!"
"Altaria, Protect! Musharna! Imprison!"
The Humming Pokemon flew itself to the corner of the arena and embraced the sparkling light. Musharna formed a red seal around Florges as a red mark appeared on the Garden Pokemon's forehead. Florges grew impatient with the inability to use a lot of moves and emitted a Moonblast attack.
Altaria went for a second Protect and successfully shielded themselves. Musharna endured the hit and countered with a Zen Headbutt. Florges retaliated with a Pollen Puff, knocking out the Drowsing Pokemon.
"Great job Musharna! You made it far..." Kirby threw his final Poke Ball out, "Togetic! Altaria! Aerial Ace, together!"
"Florges! Dazzling Gleam!"
Togetic and Altaria took flight and began flying toward Florges at a breakneck pace. The Happiness Pokemon went ahead of the Humming Pokemon and made the first land, leaving enough room for Altaria to dodge the Dazzling Gleam and make the second hit.
Florges stood her ground and knocked Altaria back with a Moonblast. It was now Togetic and Florges remaining in the fight. No Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Trick Room, or Misty Terrain, only two fairy types standing their ground.
"Florges! Calm Mind!"
"Togetic, Sunny Day!"
Florges used psychic energy to concentrate on upgrading her special attacks while Togetic illuminated the battlefield, hoping Kirby knew what he was planning.
Florges then went for a Misty Terrain, strengthening her fairy-type moves further for a final attack. The Happiness Pokemon countered with a Flamethrower, burning the Garden Pokemon.
"Florges, Moon Blast!"
"Togetic, Morning Sun!"
The Happiness Pokemon endured the Moon Blast and recovered her health with the aid of the scorching sunlight that bathed the battlefield. Florges grumbled and impatiently used Rain Dance to get rid of the sunlight. Togetic retaliated by using Water Pulse for a finishing blast.
"Florges, falls! All four of Ripple's Pokemon are unable to battle. Kirby from Popopo Village wins!"
Kirby and his team celebrated the victory, despite being very weak from the battle.
"Thanks, you guys! That was a close one!" Kirby cheered on.
"A close victory, but a proper one, nonetheless!" Ripple held out her gym badge and a TM, "Here's your Shining Crystal badge along with a TM for Dazzling Gleam-"
RUMBLE... CRASH!
A loud crashing noise could be heard from the outdoors. Q. Ripple and Kirby turned to the large window and saw the sky darken. Cries of help could be heard from the citizens as a familiar, heart-shaped pattern with bat wings formed in the sky.
