"There he is!" Shouted Penguin, pouting towards the flash of green that ran below them, onto Main Street.

"Get on!" The Joker was a fast runner but Penguin, however, was not. Joker bent down and Penguin jumped onto his back.
The Joker slightly struggled with the weight that was pushed onto him, but the amount of rage he had for the Riddler took him over.

Joker sped after Riddler, keeping an eye on him as he weaved in and out of stores, and through the people in the streets.

Penguin pulled out a gun from his pocket and held it above both of their heads, firing it as a sign to show people to move the hell out of the way.
Screams were heard as the Riddler vanished from Joker's sight, into a nearby Pawn Shop.

The Joker slowed down, pulling his own gun out of his pocket and lowering Penguin onto the floor.

Joker turned into the shop, gun loaded and a smile on his face. Penguin followed him inside.

"I know you're in here, Edward." Grinned the Joker.
The cashier at the counter ducked down, in obvious fear.

"Hey lady." Penguin called to her. "seen a man in a green suit anywhere here?"

She lifted her head.
"Check the roof." She mouthed to them, and pointed to the staircase.

Joker smiled.
He and Penguin cautiously made their way up, and immediately saw a tall, thin man wearing a flashy green suit leaning against the chimney.

He looked up with a slight smile, and peered at them both from black-rimmed spectacles under his hat.

"Hello, Nygma." The Joker clenched his fist.
"Hello, Joker. Penguin." Riddler said, pulling out a pipe from his pocket and lighting it.

The Joker looked behind him. Penguin was frozen, staring at the Riddler. A light pink blush spread around his face.

Oh gosh.

Joker knew they were going to have a problem taking out the Riddler right then.
Just by the way Penguin looked at Edward, Joker knew they weren't going to get the job done.

Joker sighed. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, and put his gun back in his pocket. Riddler's smile faded.

"What are you doing?"

"Why'd you betray me, Edward?" Joker asked, hoping the Riddler wouldn't kill him right there.

"Why would you put your gun away?" Riddler asked, trying to grasp ahold of the situation. "That was completely not logical, not to mention, stupid."

The Riddler turned to look at Penguin. The Penguin looked away immediately, nearly dropping his gun.
Riddler's face tinted pink, and he pulled the pipe out of his mouth.

It was actually quiet, nobody knowing what to say.
The Joker quietly chuckled, glancing between Penguin and Riddler.

"My name is Edward Nygma." The Riddler eventually stated, holding out his hand for Penguin to shake. "We haven't been formally introduced yet."

Penguin's face looked a lot like a strawberry. He looked up at Nygma and shook his hand.
"I'm Penguin, at least that's what everybody knows me as, you can call me Oswald if you want to though."

The Joker shook his head in disbelief. "Penguin, remember we have to kill him."

The Riddler dropped Penguin's hand immediately and backed up to the edge of the roof.

"Right.." Oswald grumbled, reaching for his gun. Riddler put the pipe out, and tucked it into his pocket.

Joker side-eyed Penguin.

Oswald side-eyed Joker.

Penguin looked back at Riddler, who was checking how far the drop was to the ground.

"What's wrong with you, Oz?" Said the Joker. "Shoot him!"

Penguin glared at Joker. "I'm trying!" He hissed.

"What the hell..." sighed Joker. "Damn it, Oswald. Fine. Don't shoot him."

Penguin and Riddler looked at him in shock.
"You must truly be insane." Said Edward. "You have made no logical decisions since I met you."

"Shut up, Ed." Joker said. His smile wasn't even there anymore. "Get out of here."

The Riddler climbed off the Pawn Shop with no hesitation, only looking back at Penguin once more.

Then he was gone.

The Joker had missed his chance.

Joker knew, now he would never be able to kill the Riddler. Because Edward now meant something to Oswald. Oswald finally HAD something in his life, and Joker couldn't take it away like that.

He went and sat down at the edge of the rooftop. He didn't care if he accidentally fell off, or somebody shot him from down below. It didn't bother him anymore.

Penguin waddled over and sat down beside him.
"What's wrong, J?" He asked. "Why didn't you kill the Riddler?"

"I couldn't let that happen, Oswald." Joker said. "I saw the way you looked at him. I saw how he looked at you."

"What do you mean?" Penguin asked, getting defensive.
Joker giggled, and stared at the ground.

"And why in the world would he shake your hand?" Joker asked. "You were his enemy in that situation."

"You're fucking sick to think that, Joker." Penguin said. "I don't like him. I was going to kill him."

"You sure about that?" Joker said. "It doesn't matter. We'll get another chance."

"Shut the hell up." Penguin raised his voice.

"Fine, then go down there and kill him yourself!" Joker exclaimed.

"No!" Penguin said.
"That's what I thought!" Joker grinned. Penguin gave the middle finger to Joker.

"I'm not gay, Joker!" He yelled.

"I thought you were!" Said Joker. "You told me you once had a crush on Cory Michael Smith!"

"You're wrong!" Penguin shouted, standing up.
"Oswald, I don't care if you are, or aren't gay." Joker promised. "Because I'm gay, so why should I care if you are? It doesn't matter, okay?"

Penguin looked down at his feet. Joker saw tears brimming in his eyes.
"Ozzie." Joker said softly.

"My mother hated gay people." Penguin whispered. "And when she found out about me... she ki- she kill.." Penguin turned away from Joker, his voice breaking.

Joker didn't say anything. He would've gave Oswald a hug, but he knew Oswald hated physical touch, especially during a time like this.

So Joker was just quiet. He let Penguin cry for a couple of seconds, before he was able to pull himself together.

"She killed herself." Penguin finally said. "Because of me."

"I'm here for you, Oswald." The Joker promised.
"I should go back to the iceberg." Penguin said. He turned back around, eyes bloodshot and slightly puffy. "I'll see you later, J."

"See you, Penguin." Joker said quietly. "Thanks for the help." He watched as Oswald hobbled back downstairs.

The Joker didn't know that a dark, cloaked figure had seen the entire exchange from above them, on top of a clothing store roof.
And when Batman dropped down beside the Joker, Joker full-out screamed in shock.
"Oh, fuck!"
He yelled as Batman sat down next to him.

"Relax. I'm not here to hurt you."
