The Riddler and Batman let Joker and Penguin have some space. In fact, Penguin didn't even know there were other people in the room besides the Joker.
"It's going to be okay, it's alright Oz." Joker whispered. "I'm here now."

"I'm sorry." Oswald mumbled weakly. "I don't know why I did that."
"Don't apologize. I know you weren't yourself." Joker promised, letting go of Oswald but still holding his hand.

Penguin glanced around the room, and his monitor screamed once he looked over at Batman.
"Wh-wha-" Penguin tried to get out of the bed, but his IV strap kept him back.

"Don't look at him." Joker said. "I don't know why he's here." Joker glared at Batman. "Nygma's here though!"
Oswald and Edward's eyes met, and Ed smiled at him.
"He's been here the whole time. Didn't leave your side, only to get me." Joker grinned.

Penguin still blushed, despite his condition, and held out his hand for Nygma to hold.
Edward got up with a sigh and walked over to hold Oswald's other hand. Oswald giggled, looking between the two.

"Never do that again, Oswald." Ed said sternly. "You gave everybody a real scare."
Penguin's grin dropped, and his monitor slowed down a little, but still went quickly.

"I'm serious." Riddler narrowed his eyes. "You gave me a heart attack and almost had Joker in cardiac arrest."
"Okay, that's a little dramatic." Joker smirked. "You scared all of the villains shitless though, you're our baby, you know?"

"Selena is the baby." Penguin said in a pretty quiet voice.
"Selena takes care of herself really well though. She's a more independent person." Edward said.
"That's mean." Penguin glared, and let go of Ed's hand to feel the IV in his chest. He shuddered.

"You know what I mean." Nygma said.
"Just rest, okay buddy?" Joker pulled the covers up on Penguin a little more. "We'll all be here when you wake up again."

"How am I supposed to sleep when I have a giant bat in the corner of my room?" Penguin asked, avoiding Batman's eyes.
"Good question." Joker said. He thought for a moment.
"Why doesn't Batman just sit outside the room." Riddler suggested. "Get outside, Batman."

The Bat stood up, and Penguin closed his eyes tight to avoid sight of him. Batman grumbled.
"I'm not leaving the building."
"Okay, bye." Joker said, and pushed him out of the door. "Problem solved."

"Rest well." Joker heard Edward whisper in Penguin's ear. The heart monitor picked up again, and Oswald reddened.
Joker sat down in an armchair, and Riddler sat next to him.

Penguin smiled at them and closed his eyes. A nurse walked inside.
"Are you his family?" She asked with a thick Hungarian accent.
"I'm his brother, and this is, um..." Joker drew a blank. He could tell that this nurse was homophobic just by the way she stared at them.

"I'm his cousin." Nygma grinned nicely. The nurse seemed relieved.
"Ah, good. I have encountered too many gays this week. I thought you were because of the.. erm.. nails." She said, motioning to Joker's hands. He immediately put them behind his back.

"How's he looking?" Nygma changed the subject.
"Hm? Oh, your cousin, yes." The nurse said. "He has a very nasty wound to the chest, it nearly hit his heart but a rib blocked the bullet from getting through."

"Oh, my gosh." Edward grimaced, turning slightly green. Joker knew he was imagining all of Oswald's innards and everything in full detail.

"When can he come home?" Joker asked.
The nurse paused and fiddled with Oswald's IV. She glanced at the monitor.
"He is asleep right now, so he might be able to go home by the end of this week. Very, very nasty injury indeed." Nurse said.
