Chapter 13: Her Starting Point
"Which group?"
"Our group," Zhang Chuliang turned to look at him, his eyes shining behind his glasses, "the one you handled yesterday will be handed back to you, I will personally handle this one."
"Brother Zhang, have mercy!" Chen Xin looked eagerly, wanting to become a top editor, he knew he needed Zhang's guidance to make a few books successful.
"I can't give this to you," Zhang Chuliang pushed his glasses up, "the structure of this book is very innovative, if we can maintain this level consistently, I might be able to lead a new literary genre. Chen Xin, do you understand the implications of this?"
Chen Xin swallowed hard, nodding vigorously, of course he knew, he could be a literary master and mentor to many in the future!
As the computer turned on, Chen Xin quickly opened the website and typed in the book title, wanting to see what kind of story could make the usually composed Zhang excited.
Meanwhile, Zhang Chuliang went backstage to look up the details of the author, a person named "Barely Rich". He copied the QQ number, quickly scanning through the information. His first impression was that this was a cautious person, probably not very young.
Unfortunately, the other person did not accept the request for a long time. Zhang Chuliang was so excited that he couldn't sit still, eager to sign this person immediately, even if there were conditions to negotiate.
At that time, Song Yimo was in class, so she didn't check her QQ. It wasn't until she got home after school, had dinner, washed the dishes, and finished her homework in an orderly and efficient manner that she finally sat down at her computer.
Logging into QQ out of habit, she heard a cough and immediately opened the message.
This number was newly registered, and the friend list was still empty. So far, she had only left her details in the author's profile, so the only person who would add her would be from the website.
Once she accepted, the message came through, "Hello, Barely Rich?"
Song Yimo replied with a yes.
Zhang Chuliang, who had been sitting in front of the computer all day, took off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose before putting them back on and typing rapidly, "I have high hopes for your book 'Crossing'. Would you be willing to sign with our website?"
Song Yimo didn't expect the other party to be so straightforward and generous. She wasn't one to be difficult, so she responded promptly, "Yes."
Zhang Chuliang smiled, "Do you have any requirements?"
"Keep the rights to my work."
"All copyrights?"
"Yes."
This person had a strong sense of copyright. Zhang Chuliang wondered if they lived abroad because few people in China thought about these things. He pushed his glasses habitually. "Is there anything we can discuss?"
"In the case of equal compensation, the website has priority."
Fair enough. Zhang Chuliang didn't want to argue about this, especially when those above him didn't care. "I will specify in the contract. When will you be online tomorrow? I will send the contract to you for review."
"I am only online at this time in the evening. Please send it to my email." Song Yimo left her newly registered NetEase email.
"Alright."
Song Yimo typed on her keyboard, "Will you be my editor in the future?"
"Yes, I am Zhang Chuliang. I will be directly responsible for you in the future. You can come to me for anything, and I will do my best to provide you with convenience."
"I have one request."
Here it comes, Zhang Chuliang sat up straight. He knew it wouldn't be easy. "Go ahead."
"I don't have much time to write, and I don't want to waste it on trivial matters. I hope that anything unrelated to writing will not be brought to me. You handle what you can, and only inform me of what you can't handle. As long as I continue to write and you're on this website, our cooperation will be long-lasting. I hope to build a relationship of trust. What do you think, Editor Zhang?"
A very rational person, Zhang Chuliang mentally labeled Barely Rich as such. However, this small request was much less troublesome than he had anticipated. "It is my responsibility to create a good creative environment for the author. After working together for a while, you will see that I am trustworthy."
"I hope we have a pleasant cooperation."
"Pleasant cooperation."
"If you need anything, leave me a message. I need to get back to writing."
This was music to the ears of all editors. Zhang Chuliang sent a waving emoji and watched as the other person immediately went offline. He was satisfied, as no editor liked authors who dragged their feet. These kinds of personalities could be troublesome in various aspects, driving editors crazy. Especially in the realm of physical publishing.
Flipping through the chat records, Zhang Chuliang wrote in his notebook: Barely Rich: Serious, rational, meticulous, well-organized, honest, no nonsense.
On the other end of the computer, Song Yimo was now excitedly rolling around under her blanket. There was no trace of the rational and meticulous demeanor, as this was the first time she had published a novel under her own name, not as a ghostwriter. "Barely Rich", the name she had used for years could finally be used openly.
Before, she didn't dare to take risks, wanting to earn money first to pay off debts. But now, things were different. She had no debts to anyone and had gained a lot of practical experience. She had the courage to take a chance.
