Chapter 22: Grandma's Thoughts

Song Yimo did indeed go to find Grandma Song, but she didn't say a word that she shouldn't have.

Grandma Song, from a working class family, was a cautious person. She was skeptical when she heard about the situation and couldn't trust it. Why would a wealthy person want to acknowledge a child with nothing?

Was it because Yimo was pretty?

Rich families' sons playing with Cinderellas – that's how it was portrayed on TV.

But she could also see that Song Yimo had a favorable impression of that man. Her expectations were perhaps unknown even to herself.

Grandma Song couldn't bear to disappoint her granddaughter.

After some thought, Grandma Song tentatively asked, "What if I disagree?"

"Then I won't acknowledge him."

Grandma Song wasn't surprised by this answer. It was precisely because Song Yimo was so well-behaved that she couldn't bring herself to refuse. With a sigh, she motioned for Song Yimo to sit with her back towards her and started to comb her hair. "Do you want to cut your hair? It's troublesome to have long hair during high school."

Song Yimo had been thinking about cutting her hair during this break. It had grown long, almost to her waist, and washing it took a lot of time. "I'll go for a haircut after school tomorrow."

Gently holding Song Yimo's dark, soft hair in her hand, Grandma Song hesitated, "Do you want to cut just a little? Long hair suits you."

Song Yimo gestured, "Cut this much."

"That would probably reach your shoulders. That's fine too; it's less hassle."

After tying up her hair, Grandma Song returned to the previous topic, "When I don't see someone around, I worry. I fear you might be taken advantage of. People aren't going anywhere; take some time to get to know him better. If he's truly a good person, and if you think it's appropriate, how about it?"

"Okay." Song Yimo leaned back into Grandma's embrace. "Whatever Grandma decides is fine with me, as long as you're here."

"Silly girl." Grandma Song hugged her and shook her, just like when she was a little girl. "As you grow up, Grandma gets older. And when I get old, there will come a day when I walk ahead of you..."

Song Yimo twisted away forcefully, and Grandma Song patted her soothingly. "Alright, let's not talk about this. Grandma will strive to live a long and healthy life."

"There are plenty of people living to a hundred these days, Grandma can certainly do it too." Bringing up the topic, Song Yimo added, "Grandma, I noticed you clutching your stomach a few times. Is it bothering you? Let's make an appointment to have it checked at the hospital."

"These are just minor issues. Why waste money going to the hospital? This stomach issue dates back to my working days. As long as I eat on time, it doesn't hurt. At this age, who doesn't have some health problems? People, as they age, are all the same."

Since the money hadn't come in yet, Song Yimo wasn't insisting on taking Grandma to the hospital right away. She grumbled irritably, "After so many years, I didn't even know about this old stomach problem of yours. Grandma, were you deliberately keeping it from me?"

Grandma Song laughed, "Do I need to groan about such a minor issue every day? I'm not one of those people who moan even when they're not sick."

Song Yimo's mood still wasn't great. Instead of blaming Grandma for not telling her, she seemed to blame herself.
