Chapter 176: Yimo's Troubles
Maybe it was because they were young, but none of the four showed much sign of altitude sickness. From the moment they stepped off the plane, they were full of energy. Well, three of them were—one kept drifting off.
Wu Ting nudged Miao Zhiruo’s shoulder, who shrugged in response. She genuinely had no idea what was going on; she’d only been out for less than three hours last night, and when she got back, Yimo was already in this state.
Given Zhai Muyang’s attentiveness to Song Yimo, of course the hotel he booked was top-notch, with an authentic Tibetan flair.
They had two adjoining rooms with large beds—Wu Ting and Zuo Chun in one, Song Yimo and Miao Zhiruo in the other.
As they were about to enter, Zhou Qing, who’d been barely noticeable all along, stopped the four of them. “Dinner will be brought to your rooms soon. It’s late—get some good rest.”
“You too, Zhou-ge,” they replied.
When they entered the room, Miao Zhiruo’s eyes went wide at the enormous bed, large enough to fit four people with room to spare. She leaped onto it with a shout, rolling back and forth several times before she finally started to take in the rest of the room.
The décor was dominated by deep browns and yellows. Every detail, from the ceiling ornaments and wall hangings to the sofa, tea table, and carpet, was imbued with the rich style of the local ethnic culture.
Having spent her whole life in a small inland town, where she’d rarely even met anyone from a minority group, Miao Zhiruo was instantly captivated.
Song Yimo, a little less taken aback, walked over to the open window and looked out. “Miaomiao, come look at this!”
Not far away, the red and white walls of Potala Palace stood out vividly against the night lights, imposing and untouchable, radiating an air of serene dignity in the evening glow.
“If the Potala Palace were a person,” Miao Zhiruo murmured, “she’d be the kind of woman who could command any room.”
“Yes,” Song Yimo agreed. “We’ll go there first thing tomorrow.”
“We absolutely have to.”
Before long, the doorbell rang, and Song Yimo ran to answer it. Outside was a young woman in Tibetan attire bringing their food.
It wasn’t Tibetan-style cuisine but rather something similar to home-cooked dishes—simple and digestible. Since it was a two-person serving, there was plenty.
The Tibetan girl, smiling, greeted them with a “Tashi Delek” and explained in flawless Mandarin, “Mr. Zhou asked us to serve easily digestible food, as you’re all new here. If you’d like to try some Tibetan specialties, you’re welcome to visit our restaurant on the first floor tomorrow. Of course, there are also many places nearby where you can taste local dishes.”
———
TN: The Chinese characters 扎西德勒 (Zāxī Délè) are a transliteration of the Tibetan phrase བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས (pronounced Tashi Delek). It is a common Tibetan greeting that conveys blessings, good luck, and happiness. In English literary contexts, it is often simply transliterated as "Tashi Delek" or translated as "Blessings and good luck."
———Setting down the large tray, the tall Tibetan girl turned to them with a warm smile that instantly made her likable. “My name is Gesang Zhuoma. If you need anything, feel free to ask for me.”
Song Yimo nodded, thanked her politely, and escorted her to the door.
Gesang Zhuoma was a bit surprised by her courtesy, then smiled even more warmly.
