Chapter 147: A Haven for Her

June evenings stayed light late. After dinner, they emerged to find the sky not yet fully dark.

Two brand-new tour cars waited outside, and Zhou Xin stepped out, inviting everyone aboard.

“Zhou Xin, lead the way.”

“Yes, boss. This way, everyone.”

Zheng Senlin, Zou Mo, and Ma Bo climbed into the rear car, while Zhai Muyang guided Song Yimo to join him in the front.

The cars moved at a leisurely pace.

Seated casually, legs crossed, Zheng Senlin took in the sights as they passed. “Not especially stunning, but it has a calming feel. With any scenic area, no matter how beautiful it is, if you see it enough, it’s just scenery.”

With the breeze tousling her hair, Song Yimo gathered it and began to hold it back. Zhai Muyang reached over and, with some effort, started to braid it for her.

Zheng Senlin’s eyes nearly popped out. Even Zou Mo glanced over, barely containing his reaction.

Only Ma Bo, still grinning, looked completely serene, his bald head giving him an air of cheerful calm.

Zhai Muyang glanced at his friends, his hands still busily braiding. When he finished, he fastened the braid with a clip, a sense of pride gleaming in his eyes.

Song Yimo reached up to touch it; it was a little loose, but much better than letting her hair fly loose.

The tour car rolled onto a new path paved with cobblestones, rounding a bend and continuing for a while before coming to a halt.

They had arrived at a valley, cradled on three sides by mountains. The nearest hills were small, growing taller and more lush as they receded into the distance.

Within the valley, several red-roofed brick houses stood spaced at a comfortable distance, scattered among the greenery. The sight of red rooftops peeking through the trees, with a gentle breeze stirring their edges, gave the scene an ethereal, secluded charm.

Zhai Muyang tapped the side of the car to get Zheng Senlin’s attention as he craned his neck out. “Time to get off.”

Zheng Senlin looked around and chuckled as he stepped out. “You know, there isn’t much I haven’t experienced. Whether it’s castles in Europe or remote mountain retreats, I’ve seen it all. And yet, this simple view actually took me by surprise.”

Song Yimo, holding her brother’s arm, gazed at the valley. If anyone was more amazed, it was surely her!

In both her past life and this one, she had come here often, but she’d been too busy during her senior year to visit since the valley had been completed. She hadn’t expected it to turn out like this, with such a tranquil, hidden-away charm. It felt like a paradise untouched by the outside world.

And if it were misty... she could only imagine how beautiful it would be.

“Do you like it?” Zhai Muyang asked, looking down at her.

Song Yimo’s face lit up with a soft smile and dimples. “I love it. It’s like my very own Shangri-La.”

Such praise made Zhai Muyang’s heart swell with pride. Building the extra houses had been an afterthought—what he’d truly worked for was her happiness.

Zou Mo turned back, a glint of interest in his eyes. “Lao Zhai, what about security?”

“High,” Zhai Muyang nodded. “The guards are all experienced veterans, the kind you don’t want to mess with, plus we have guard dogs as well.”
