Chapter 81: Separation of Stem Cells

Guo Chao walked in with a light cough. "Are you ready?"

Lu Yan snapped back to reality and continued with her work.

Song Yimo took the initiative to roll up her sleeves and lie down, placing her hands flat on both sides of the bed, making it convenient for both of them to inject.

She had initially thought of closing her eyes, but the thought of a large needle piercing her skin at any moment made her decide to watch the needle drop instead.

After a while, Lu Yan looked up. "I'm ready here. Zhu Ling, are you ready over there?"

"Ready."

"Let's begin."

The nurse named Zhu Ling on her left side seemed a bit aloof, but her movements in inserting the catheter into her left arm appeared to be practiced and skillful.

As she prepared to administer the injection, Song Yimo turned her head to the other side, but the first thing she saw was still the needle.

Suddenly, everything went black.

Her brother's voice came, "Nurse, please be gentle."

Song Yimo tried to imagine her brother's position at the bedside, where she remembered there was a stem cell separator besides Nurse Zhu Ling.

A sharp pain shot up her left arm, and she instinctively wanted to pull back.

Zhu Ling pressed down with force, her voice sounding surprisingly gentle, "Don't tense up, relax."

Song Yimo tried to relax, feeling someone gently caressing her head.

It was her brother.

She bit her lip, thinking that in her past life, she had endured everything without anyone's concern. But now, with someone to accompany and care for her, what couldn't she endure?

Feeling her relaxation, Zhu Ling softly praised, "You're doing great, the more relaxed you are, the less it hurts."

Whether it was psychological or not, Song Yimo clearly felt the blood flowing out of her body.

She had been through this once before and understood the process of bone marrow extraction. After withdrawing blood from her left arm, the blood and some saline solution would be reinfused into her right arm after the stem cell separation procedure.

In reality, her blood volume wouldn't decrease much; she would only lose the invisible stem cells. But even though she understood this, she still felt afraid.

A sharp piercing pain came from her right arm, but Song Yimo controlled her reaction and tried to relax.

Lu Yan, busy with her actions, added, "This process may cause a loss of calcium. If you feel numbness around your lips, don't panic. It's a normal phenomenon. I'll give you a bag of liquid calcium later. If it doesn't improve, drink a few more bottles. It's not a big deal."

Lu Yan seemed to think she was being a bit insensitive, so her tone softened a bit, "We will leave someone here to monitor your condition. If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, be sure to speak up, and we'll do our best to make you more comfortable."

"Thank you." Song Yimo shook her head, and Zhai Muyang understood, moving his hand away.

Lu Yan then handed her a ball to hold. "Rotate it from time to time to promote blood circulation."

Song Yimo thanked her again, maintaining a calm and polite attitude that made Lu Yan sigh and take Zhu Ling aside to talk.

Zhai Muyang gently touched Song Yimo's slightly damp forehead, feeling extremely sorry for her.

Song Yimo comforted him in turn, "The insertion of the needle was particularly painful, but I feel much better now."

"Feeling better doesn't mean it's not painful anymore. If Grandmother knew the suffering you endure, she would probably fight with Song Yi."

Indeed, she had to fight. In her past life, she had hidden everything well, and Grandma only thought she had donated some blood.

Later, when Shen Zhuo's condition improved, Song Yi excitedly called to share the news, but for some reason, Grandma suspected something and angrily cut ties with Song Yi over the phone, even scolding Song Yimo.

That was the only time Grandma got angry with her.

Thinking of all this, Song Yimo thought she should remind Song Yi before she left, so as not to upset Grandma again.

At that moment, Miao Jun entered, with a chill in the air, apparently coming from a place where the wind blows.

Letting out an almost imperceptible sigh, Miao Jun said, "It's a good thing He Yi isn't here; otherwise, she'd have a fight with Song Yi."

Song Yimo smiled, feeling quite fortunate.

She had people who owed her, but also those who were very kind to her. She wasn't lacking in the things she possessed.

She felt content.

As long as she could protect these things in her life, she would be satisfied.

With two big men guarding her like guardian angels on each side, Song Yimo unexpectedly fell asleep for a while, not waking up until Lu Yan came to administer the liquid calcium through the injection needle.

"Awake? Do you feel any numbness around your mouth?"

Song Yimo paused for a moment, feeling as though her mouth wasn't her own, and nodded.

"Just a bit of calcium infusion will fix it." Lu Yan glanced at the two men and asked softly, "Do you need to use the restroom? I can take you."

"Not yet, thanks, Nurse Lu." She had already tried to drink as little water as possible today to avoid having to use the restroom halfway through.

Lu Yan smiled, "Just let me know if you need to go."

But after four and a half hours, Lu Yan hadn't heard her call for a restroom break.

As soon as the needle stopped collecting blood, Song Yimo dashed to the restroom. When she came out, Guo Chao was there, holding a bag containing the stem cells separated from her body.

He had always been nice to Song Yimo, even with a hint of tenderness.

"Have you suffered? Is your mouth still numb?"

Song Yimo nodded honestly, "Just a little."

Guo Chao turned to Lu Yan, "Get two bottles of calcium for her to take. It's the time for growth, and she shouldn't be lacking in that."

Lu Yan left to get the calcium.

Guo Chao continued, "The loss of these stem cells from your body will have some impact, and your immunity will be lowered for a while. Take good care of yourself, avoid overworking, but don't worry too much. There won't be any major issues, and you'll recover soon."

Miao Jun frowned, "Yimo is a high school student. Doctor Guo, you know that high school students in our country are not likely to have an easy time. Can her body handle this?"

Guo Chao smiled, "It's not that serious. Just remember to dress warmly and avoid crowded places during flu season."

"Good to know." Miao Jun looked at Song Yimo, who hadn't shown any change in expression, suddenly realizing that at some point, Song Yimo had stopped showing much emotion. Even her attitude towards Song Yi, which was previously not so kind, was now indifferent.

It seemed that while he wasn't paying attention, Song Yimo had grown up, forming her own opinions, managing to support the household with only her grandmother and herself, and even standing by his side when he was busy.

And she wasn't even sixteen yet.

What would she be like when she turned twenty-six?

Watching Muyang carefully inspect the needle mark on Yimo's arm, Miao Jun couldn't help but ponder this question.
