Chapter 185: The Moment of Reunion

Anyone who has ever been far from home knows just how wonderful it feels to return.

Stepping off the plane and seeing the dense rain outside didn’t dampen their spirits in the slightest.

The four of them pushed two luggage carts toward the exit, where Song Yimo immediately spotted her tall, unmistakable older brother, standing with Miao’s parents at his side.

Catching her brother’s warm, smiling gaze, Song Yimo felt a rush of joy mixed with shyness. She wanted to run over but hesitated, smoothing her long hair nervously.

He Yi hurried over and enveloped Song Yimo in a tight hug, her eyes crinkling with delight. “Our star scholar is back! Are you tired? Hungry? Did you get used to the food over there? Come, come, let’s go home. Your brother even brought Aunt Song along so we can all spend a few days enjoying the city before heading back.”

From start to finish, He Yi didn’t spare a glance at her own daughter, her focus entirely on Song Yimo as she guided her forward.

Miao Zhiruo protested, pointing to herself in disbelief. “Mom, I’m your actual daughter! Can you at least look at me once?”

He Yi turned briefly to glance at her, then resumed her conversation with Song Yimo, utterly affectionate.

Wu Ting and Zuo Chun couldn’t hold back their laughter, giving Miao Zhiruo’s shoulder a sympathetic pat as they pushed the luggage carts to follow.

Miao Zhiruo turned to her father, putting on a dramatic pout. “Dad, sometimes I wonder if I’m really your daughter and Yimo is the real one.”

Miao Zhiruo’s father, Miao Jun, chuckled, his expression softer than usual. Patting his daughter on the shoulder, he took over her luggage cart and teased, “After all these years, you still haven’t gotten used to it?”

“Of course, I’m used to it!” she scoffed playfully. “If I weren’t, Yimo and I would’ve had a falling out ages ago.”

She linked arms with her father, her tone turning sweet. “Dad, I scored so high on my exams—don’t you think I deserve a reward?”

Miao Jun glanced at her. “What do you want?”

“A new laptop!”

“Are you sure?”

Miao Zhiruo nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, definitely!”

Miao Jun smiled. “Alright, I’ll get you one. I’d already planned to buy it for you when you start college.”

“Dad!” Miao Zhiruo halted, feigning deep disappointment. “You’re teasing me, too!”

The others stopped and looked back, amused.

He Yi shot her daughter a disapproving look. “What kind of scene are you making in public? Stop fussing and let’s go.”

Song Yimo stole a quick glance at her brother, only to find him watching her too, and suddenly felt self-conscious. To cover it up, she hurried over to Miaomiao and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Miao Zhiruo pointed at her father, tattling, “He’s pretending my laptop is a reward when he was already planning to get it for me!”

“Didn’t you just ask for it?” Song Yimo teased.

“But he didn’t tell me he was going to buy it anyway!”

Miao Jun couldn’t help but laugh. He had been in high spirits lately, with his own daughter scoring exceptionally well and Yimo, whom he treated like his own, achieving the top rank in the province. He Yi had even teased him, saying he’d been smiling in his sleep.
