Chapter 151: Futures to Pursue
Tonight, the Song house was lively and bustling.
Not only had the entire Miao family come over, but Wu Ting, Hu Xuehong, and Zuo Chun had left their own families to join as well. A full table of dishes, adults whose faces glowed with smiles, and five girls brimming with relaxed, youthful energy—the whole room was steeped in joy.
Zuo Chun raised her glass of juice toward Song Yimo. “Yimo, there are a thousand unspoken words right here.”
With a smile that lit up her eyes, Song Yimo clinked glasses with her. “Then let’s drink down all those words together.”
“Yes, let’s drink,” Zuo Chun replied, tipping her head back to drink with carefree boldness. Yet, Wu Ting, seated beside her, glimpsed the faint glimmer of tears at the corners of Zuo Chun’s eyes.
She lowered her gaze, feeling a deep understanding of Zuo Chun’s emotions—gratefulness, quiet and profound. She felt it herself, in her own way.
Hu Xuehong refilled their glasses, exchanging a glance with Wu Ting, and they both smiled knowingly.
Zhai Muyang observed this moment, feeling even more at ease with Yimo’s friends.
His thoughts, as always, were centered on Yimo, but he could sense the depth of loyalty her friends held for her, and after a little thought, he approved of their way of repaying her.
Song Yimo had always seen herself as an ordinary person. The only thing she thought remotely unconventional was her early investment in a few properties, which she now held onto, waiting for them to increase in value. It was her one real splurge—or rather, investment.
As for her daily expenses, she’d initially bought herself a little food after school to fill up. But once Zhai Muyang started slipping snacks into her bag, and even had Grandma do the same if he wasn’t around, she found she didn’t have much reason to spend anything. Some months, she barely spent a few coins—she certainly didn’t look like someone with any savings tucked away.
A person like her would never think to cultivate a circle of loyal followers for future use. If she knew that Wu Ting and her friends had such ideas, she might even feel troubled.
Wu Ting and her friends saw this clearly, so they never spoke of it openly. Zhiruo, too, understood what was going on, yet she was pleased that more people would support Yimo in the future, even covering for them when necessary.
As for him, after observing them for two years, he was finally certain their commitment was not made on impulse, and he tacitly approved of their actions.
Although Song Yimo hadn’t yet decided on her path, he had his own thoughts on it. When Yimo grows into her own strength, it would be beneficial for her to have reliable people by her side.
Adding two bites of crisp bamboo shoots to Yimo’s plate and watching her cheeks puff as she chewed, Zhai Muyang felt a surge of joy.
No matter what road Yimo chose in the future, he would always need to think a few steps ahead of her, to protect her with all the care she deserved.
The meal was filled with laughter and a carefree energy, and later, with the elders' permission, each of them enjoyed half a glass of red wine, making their youthful smiles even brighter.
Afterward, no one rushed to leave. They lingered, sharing fruit and chatting.
Miao Zhiruo took a bite of a fragrant pear and sighed, “A holiday with no homework—it’s almost touching just thinking about it.”
“Hehe, Miao Miao, look even further ahead. Every holiday from now on will be homework-free!”
“Hehehe, hehehe…” The wine had loosened them, and they all laughed a little foolishly.
