~ A Woman Scorned ~

~ day 45 ~
• C H E Y E N N E •"Are you sure they should be here?" Damon asks under his breath, glancing over his shoulder at Joker and Frost as he escorts Graham, Dahlia, Suki, and I into the mansion. I don't bother looking back myself, refusing to let Joker even think I will ever acknowledge him again.
"You know no one can stop Joker from doing anything once he has his mind made up. He's been a shadow in every place we've checked since we found out about the bug. At this point, I don't care anymore," I shrug, but even I can't really lie as a sniffle escapes me. Damon rubs my back and I give him a pitiful smile. "I'm sorry I ever put you in the middle of this. I'm sorry I'm still doing it."
"Cheyenne, you need to do what you need to do. I'm all for whatever you think is necessary. Besides, you know we have nothing to hide," Damon insists, stopping at the bottom of the stairs. "You go ahead and start. I'll gather everyone in the common room and let them know what's going on."
Damon checks me on the chin before giving me a quick kiss on the head before he leaves the six of us alone.
"I see why you saved this place for last," Graham mutters, examining the intricate detailing of the stair railing. I purse my lips and nod, watching as Graham runs his finger over notches in the railing. "It may as well have its own zip code."
"That being said, we should split to cover ground faster," Dahlia huffs before glancing back at Joker and Frost who were hovering close enough to hear the conversation.
"Frost and I can cover the rest of the house while you search the main rooms," Joker suggests, stepping forward. I keep my head turned away from him, refusing to give them acknowledgement,
"It's not a bad idea, I guess," Dahlia hmphs, arms crossed as she takes a few steps towards them, meeting them with a tight lipped, venom-laced smile. "I'll tag along. Let's go."
They both seem miffed, but knowing they have no choice, they leave with Dahlia. Graham, Suki, and I climb the stairs.
"The main rooms are Damon's office and the three biggest single rooms upstairs. I believe it's the room I was staying in, Damon's room, and then Mercy's," I tell them, taking my gloves off and tucking them into my pocket. "Let's search them in that order."
We moved through the rooms like a search party sweeping for truth. Mercy's space was the last one on the second floor. It was a bedroom of careful chaos. Souvenirs, a shelf of knickknacks, a bed made haphazardly, tissues and bags of chips strewn about, along with her iPad loudly playing whatever she was binge watching currently.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Mercy asks, sitting up from her bed. I ignore her, taking a second to scan the room before moving through it.
"Rats," I mumble, moving to stand right in front of her dresser to examine all the little knick knacks she had. "You know the problem with rats? They bring disease. Then, they make everybody sick."
I turn towards Suki and Graham in the doorway before motioning for them to come in and begin the search. As soon as they step foot into the room, I hear her let out a hefty sigh from behind me, but I ignore her still, picking things up, turning them over, examining them as carefully as I can.
"Don't touch my stuff," she sneers, stomping over to me and taking a snowglobe with the statue of liberty out of my hand. "I don't know what kind of witch hunt you're on now, but I'm no snitch. There's nothing in here for you. Now get out."
"Ah, ah, ah. Snitches and rats are not the same thing," I correct her, watching as she sets it down gingerly before looking at me. Her cheeks were red and splotchy, eyes glassy. "What happened to you?"
