My eyes fly open and I look at the window in my room. It’s about three in the morning, it’s still dark outside. I slip out of my bed and my feet hit the cold wooden floor boards, my heart still beating a million miles a minute from the noise outside my window. I feel myself slowly creep over to the window, my mind completely focused on the fact that there could be something or someone outside. When I finally reach my window I look outside. But all I see is the leafless tree and the grey storm clouds that signal a storm is about to arrive. Nothing or no one is out there. How can there be anyone there anyway? I am on the second floor! I mentally slap myself for being so silly, it was probably a possum or something. Right? A little hysterical giggle escapes my lips as I make my way back to my bed.
Slipping back in I look up at my ceiling. It a creamy white colour with a little swirly pattern through it. It is quite beautiful really.
Maybe I have freaked myself out with the fact that The Undead know who I am. But Julian and family are right. They may know who I am but not where I am.
The first few drops of rain hit my window and the thunder soon follows. I hate storms. Ever since a bolt of lightning hit just near my grandmothers house, I have been scared of them. I curl myself up into a ball and hum to myself. Grandmother taught me that, that humming always helps. The storm gets worse outside and lightning begins to strike across the sky like giant uneven forks. It flashes into my room.
I pull my dooner up around my neck and place my arms back around my knees as I continue to hum. I start to cry, I know my fear is silly but I have had it since I was three. Quiet sobs start to escape my lips, I guess everything that has happened in the last year or so is finally catching up to me. My parents death, moving constantly, Violet and mines car accident, meeting vampires, finding out about the Undead and them finding out about me. It’s all catching up to me and I cry harder.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
I hear three quiet little knocks on my door and then a voice follows through, “Scarlett? Can I come in?” The voice is a guys but it is muffled by the door, making it hard for me to tell who it is.
“Uh, who is it?” I ask as I quickly wipe some of my tears away although they continue to fall.
“It’s me, Julian.” As he says this I sit up.
“Come in.” I say as I continue to wipe my eyes.
He opens the door and proceeds to walk awkwardly into my room, he closes the door behind himself. He is wearing nothing except for his pyjama bottoms and the moonlight by which I am able to see him by shows the perfect contours of his well-built chest and abdomen. His skin looks a perfect creamy white.
“You can sit on the bed Julian.” I say repeating to him what he had said to me one time.
He laughs slightly, obviously remembering. He walks over and sits down on the corner of my bed. “Scarlett, why are you crying?” he asks sliding closer to me on the bed to whip my tears away with his thumb. “I heard you crying and came to see if you were okay.” He says looking into my eyes.
I decide to tell him the simple answer, “I am scared of storms.” I tell him honestly, a nervous giggle escaping my mouth.
He laughs and says, “Scarlett you had me completely worried for a second there.” And then he continues more seriously, “Why are you afraid of storms?” he asks.
“Ever since a bolt of lightning hit just near my grandmothers house when I was three I have been scared of them. I know it’s silly, but I can’t help it.” I say and lay down as I speak.
