Chapter 23: What now?

"Agent Lloyd and Agent Chalmers are securely locked up Sir." Natasha relayed into her ear piece as she walked into the facility and closed the door behind her.

"Sargent Barnes?"

"He escaped." The Super Soldier spoke up as the team all rejoined and began their walk back to the conference room.

"What do you mean he escaped? How did one of them escape?!" Fury demanded.

"Because he kept running while we grabbed the girls." Clint snapped, flinging open the conference room door. "At least we have Mockingbird and Angel safe, now they can't come to or do any harm."

"But there's still an assassin on the streets!"

"I doubt he'll stay in the streets." Tony joined in, throwing himself in the chair next to Bruce. "He'll either go back to where they came from or find somewhere to hide until he can figure out how to break the girls out."

"So we need extra protection?" Sofia asked curiously.

"I believe there are plenty of guards already protecting this facility." Thor reassured the female scientist.

"Hopefully by then the girls will have their memories back anyway." Bruce added. "But if not, he isn't getting in anytime soon."

"Talking about getting my Agents memories back, how are we doing that?" Fury inquired with a raise of his eyebrow.

"Talk to them, show them images." Steve shrugged. "Just like anyone with amnesia."

"But this isn't amnesia." Fury pointed out.

"But it works the same." Bruce contradicted. "They still have the memories in their heads, it's just like a sheet has been dragged over them, bolted down and painted with new information. All we have to do is unbolt the bolts and drag the sheet away."

"It's going to be hard because both girls are strong willed anyway." Clint sighed. "I bet it took a while to get them to believe anything."

"And while we're at it" Natasha added. "We'll see if we can get anything about the current HYDRA boss from them."

Meanwhile the Winter Soldier had made his way quickly back to base, where Adrienne and Loki were waiting. "You're late." Loki spoke, his back to the brunette male. "Several days late."

"We must apologise tho." Adrienne sighed. "Never trust a new guy to create the weapon of choice."

"Yeah well it got Agent Carter and Agent Heart into more trouble then me." James spat, his eyes darkened from the lack of sleep.

"How so?" Narfí asked, walking into the room.

"We were taken by S.H.E.I.L.D after the explosion, an Agent worked at the hospital we were sent to." The soldier replied.

"So Cherub and Raven are currently in a S.H.E.I.L.D facility?"

"The one in New York Ma'am." James nodded stiffly. "They did the escape with me, unfortunately the Avengers got to them before we could escape."

"Of course they did." Loki growled. "I hope you have a plan to get them out without being injured."

"I'm working on it Sir. They will be back working for you by the end of the week."

"Surely they can escape themselves." Narfí spoke up again.

"They can." Adrienne nodded. "However, do you remember the bond they once had with the Avengers?"

"Yes Mother."

"Well the Avengers still believe that bond is there. It's not going to be easy for Agent Carter and Agent Heart to escape, they will be watched all the time."

"Oh."

"By the end of the week Winter." Loki commanded before leading his partner and son away.

"Shit."
