Chapter 14: Files

3rd Persons P.O.V

The Avengers all stumbled into the conference room where Bruce, Sofia, Fury and Maria Hill were awaiting their arrival. "There better be a damn good reason as to why you haven't got the prodigies with you." Fury growled, his one eye narrowing dangerously at his team.

"We did find them." Clint replied, his face twisted in pain as he pressed down on his bruised hip as he sat down.

"But they attacked us." Natasha added. "Didn't answer to their names. Then we we got close they turned around, Beth took on Tony and Steve while Deanna attacked me and Clint."

"They seemed to run before facing me." Thor stated.

"Yeah but look at you compared to them. No matter how trained they are your twice, maybe even three times the size for Deanna, the size of them." Tony pointed out.

"He's right Thor." Bruce spoke. "Plus you are also a God, with the power of Thuder. No matter how careful you were you could still hurt or kill them. They aren't stupid, they wouldn't take that risk."

"So what are you saying?" Sofia asked. "That they don't want to be a part of the team anymore?"

"No, because surely they'd answer to their names and explain to us. They ignored and then attacked us." Steve said with a huff.

"So now what? Do we track them again and get the team to attack?" Maria asked, looking up at her boss.

"I don't want them hurt and I don't think the team will attack them." Fury replied, his eyes closing for a moment. "However-"

"Sorry to interrupt Director Fury." J.A.R.V.I.S voice suddenly rang out, making everyone jump ever so slightly. "But there seems to be a bug containing some files attacked to Mr Starks suit and I have just downloaded the files onto Agent Hills tablet for you to look at."

"Thank you J.A.R.V.I.S" Fury replied, taking the tablet from his Agent and opening up the two files that the none bodied butler had sent. As he read his eye widened and his mouth dropped open every so slowly. He re-read them again before trying to understand their importance.

"What is it Fury?" Steve asked as the others waited quietly for a reply. "Director?" The Super Soldier questioned when he received no response.

"It's files of two of our ex-Agents." Fury replied.

"Why are they?" Natasha asked, sitting forward in her chair. The bald male reminded quiet for a moment and sighed.

"Agent Margret 'Peggy' Carter and Agent Coral Heart." Everyone gasped. Some due to the older Agents name, some due to the other Agents name and others in shock even though they didn't particularly know the people that were been mentioned, but it shocked them all anyway.

"Peggy?" Steve whispered, his voice cracking slightly.

"Yes, Agent Carters file."

"Who's Coral Heart?" Bruce asked, trying (and failing) to remember seeing the woman's name in the files he had been reading.

"Coral Heart was my Partner." Clint spoke up, sitting up straight in his chair. "She didn't have a code name but she was a brilliant Agent."

"Yes she was the same ranking as Barton and Romanoff, a very skilled young lady. Unfortunately a few years ago before Natasha was recruited she was killed on a mission." Fury explained further.

"Okay," Bruce began, placing his glasses on the table and rubbing his eyes. "I can understand Agent Carters file being given to us. Steve knew her and HYDRA obviously knows that she's a weak spot for the Captain, I guess they're trying to upset him and throw us all off."

"Then what's so special about Coral Heart?" Sofia asked, looking up at everyone for an answer. Clint gave her one;

"Coral wasn't just my partner in the field. We dated for a while and we're dating when she was killed." The room fell silent.

"So HYDRA's trying to break down two team members." Tony final broke the silence. "But why only two of us, surely if they can find information to break two they can break us all."

"I don't know." Steve sighed. "It could be for any number of reasons."

"The only one I can think of is there's two girls." Bruce murmured.

"Who? Bethany and Deanna?" Fury asked, raising in eyebrow.

"Yeah, two girls two files." Bruce explained. "Beth is the closest to Steve and De is the closest to Clint."

"I don't understand Doctor Banner." Sofia said, her head tilting slightly.

"Think!" Bruce insisted, jumping to his feet. "They didn't answer to their names and now two files of two women that two team members knew have been given to us! And we know HYDRA did something to them! What is HYDRA known for?!"

"Brainwashing people and changing their identities." Steve replied. Everyone's eyes widened.

"They've changed the girls to think their names are Peggy Carter and Coral Heart!" Tony yelled, also jumping to his feet.

"They must have changed their code names too because they didn't answer to them." Thor said slightly quieter than normal.

"They're trying to tear us apart." Natasha murmured.

"Using the girls." Maria finished.
