Alex
Before I could protest any further, Hope had already opened the door. I was freaking the fuck out but decided to follow her anyway as she strutted into the room like she owned the place.
It was an office with huge shelves filled with books. Next to the door there was a couch and a little coffee table. On the other side of the room there was another little table with lots of booze and a big desk. Behind the desk, a man was seated. He looked startled so I guessed he hadn't heard us break in. I soon realised how creepy we must've looked with our black clothes and ski masks.
"Good evening." Hope greeted him politely. Her voice seemed calm and collected.
"What do you want? Money? I can give you money." The guy uttered and attempted to get up from his chair.
"Sit the fuck down!" Hope shouted and the man obeyed immediately. I wondered if his heart was beating just as erratically as mine.
I sure as hell hoped the girl knew what she was doing because she hadn't elaborated on this part of the plan. She said to scare him a little but I had no idea what that meant.
The guy nodded. His facial features screamed fear for the first time since he'd seen us. He was probably in his late forties judging by his grey hair. His face still seemed somewhat youthful and his eyes were baby blue.
"I-I could tell you where my safe is." The guy suggested. He clearly wanted us out of there, probably as much as I wanted to bail on this entire situation.
"This isn't about money." Hope said, her voice still as venomous as before.
"Then what is it about?" The man asked. His brows scrunched in confusion. I noticed a few beads of sweat on his forehead.
"Revenge." Hope said. A few seconds later she grabbed her ski mask and threw it on the ground.
"The fuck?!" I exclaimed.
"I got this." She said to me. Like hell she did.
The guy looked at Hope intently with a blank expression.
"See this?" Hope said to me while pointing at the guy. "He doesn't even recognise his own daughter."
My jaw must've dropped to the floor at that point. I looked at Hope and then to the man in front of us. It was clear he was in shock. After that piece of information I could see the resemblance between him and Dean. He was basically an older version of Dean. His eyes were the same kind of blue as Hope and her brothers' eyes. All the pieces of the puzzle seemed to fit. I believed this guy was her dad without a doubt.
"Hope?" The guy said but it came out more as a whisper. I removed my own ski mask too, it didn't matter anymore. "My God, you've turned into a beautiful woman."
"Shut the fuck up." Hope bit back.
"Hope, please, I..." The guy stood up again.
"I told you to sit down!" Hope shouted, grabbed the gun from her pants and aimed it at her father.
Revenge against the system, my ass. This was personal and that fact scared me even more. Hope seemed unhinged and there was no doubt in my mind that if her dad made one wrong move, she'd pull the trigger.
"You wouldn't." Her dad said incredulously. He sat down anyway which was probably the smartest move.
"Wanna test that theory? Don't think you know me." Hope said, clutching to the gun as if it was her safety blanket.
The guy looked devastated by that fact. He knew she was right. I hadn't even realised there was music playing until that short silence. A soft hum in the background to break the icy atmosphere.
