Hope
The huge mansion in front of me reminded me of the fairy tales my dad used to tell. It looked like a 'happily ever after' house with its big gates. I got buzzed in and the gates opened slowly, revealing a huge garden with statues and a big fountain in front of the house.
To my right there were a few expensive cars but they didn't quite catch my attention like the rows and rows of fresh flowers. I stopped so I could smell a few of them. The grass seemed almost an unnatural green and I could imagine Tommy having the time of his life in a garden like this.
I realised this was only the front of the house and the back would probably be even more impressive. I decided to stop at the big fountain and noticed some fish swimming in the clear water. I was tempted to get rid of my shoes and make a splash in the huge fountain.
"There you are." I heard a voice behind me yell over the loud fall of the water.
"Alex, wow!" I gasped. I had fallen in love with her house the moment my eyes caught all the beauty and she was standing there, looking at me like I was being ridiculous. I couldn't believe she took all of this for granted. This was her 'normal'.
"What? Oh, right. You're not used to this." She shrugged. "Most people just shrug when they see this. Or they'll say 'oh that fountain is so 2005 darling' and then my mom will get all pissed but you won't notice because she had so much poison injected in her face that she can't express emotions." Alex deadpanned. The sun made Alex' hair even more red than usual.
"Okay..." I said. I mentally said goodbye to the beautiful fountain and followed Alex into the house.
"Just ignore me when I'm complaining." Alex nudged me but I was too enthralled by the sight in front of me. The garden in front of the house had been just a teaser for what was inside.
Two huge staircases circled their way down. The high ceiling consisted of one huge fresco and a few impressive chandeliers. The entire hallway screamed luxury and somehow it seemed strange imagining Alex living here. Something seemed off, like she didn't belong in a world so luxurious. I imagined she felt the same way.
"I'm guessing you want the big tour?" She asked me.
"I mean, you don't have to." I told her.
"Look who's being all polite and hesitant." Alex teased. "Come on, I'll show you the rest of the palace." She spat out the word 'palace'.
It probably took Alex half an hour to show me the huge kitchen, lounge, dinner area, bar and game room. The game room was used for playing poker and watching games. It was designed for Alex' father but he was never home so he couldn't actually 'play' in his game room.
The upstairs consisted of a buttload of rooms with ensuite bathrooms and Alex' dad's office next to her parents' bedroom.
"And this is my room." She opened the door and I could tell it was her room by the dark walls and posters. She had some books scattered across her big desk but the state of them seemed fairly new. I wondered how studious Alex was.
"I can tell by the lack of pastel." I chuckled.
"I hate pastel." Alex replied. No surprise there.
"Alright, let's go to the place where I haven't been in a really long time." Alex said with an eerie look on her face.
"What's that?" I asked her curiously.
"The back of my closet." She deadpanned and I burst out in laughter. I hadn't realised Alex had such a dramatic side.
She opened another double door and I gasped. This definitely wasn't like my closet at home, this was bigger than my own room. "Holy shit." I whispered.
