Sage
"Come on, Sage. I know this is hard." Brenda told me. I was holding a little ball in my hands. Whoever got the ball had to say what they were feeling to a person they were upset with.
"I have nothing to say." I said. I hadn't really been paying attention. This morning I went to my probation officer which meant I could use drugs again tonight. I had to stay clean for my visits because they could ask me to do a random drug test. Since I had one this morning, it meant I shouldn't expect one any time soon.
I'd already called Jeffrey with the news and he told me he'd take care of it. My mind had been elsewhere while Brenda was going on and on about feelings and how to express them. I didn't think anyone was actually listening to her, but she was trying. Maybe a little too hard, like she was trying to prove something.
"How are you feeling, Sage?" She asked me. Well, my body was a wreck. Withdrawal had been tough and anyone could see it. My plans for tonight were the only thing that got me through it.
"I'm good." I shrugged. I couldn't exactly tell her I was looking forward to using again.
"You can't keep your feelings bottled up inside. We've talked about this." She explained.
"Fine. I guess I'm a little irritated because I'm court ordered to be here." I said. Brenda swallowed and nodded. It seemed like she was personally offended by what I'd said.
"Alright, that's it for today. I'll see you all next week." Brenda clapped in her hands and all of us shot up and left the building as fast as we could. I felt like skipping all the way to Jeffrey but just as I was about to leave Hope touched my upper arm.
I gasped at the sudden contact and looked at her with a confused expression on my face.
"Hey, can you stay a little longer?" She asked me with her big blue eyes.
"Well, actually I-"
"It won't take long." She interrupted me. I shrugged and followed her to the rest of the girls. They all looked a bit confused except for Hope.
"What's this about?" Red girl said, I believed her name was Alex.
"Revenge." Hope answered with a grin on her face.
"Revenge?" Maddison asked.
"Come on, you guys. Is it really fair that we're the ones stuck here? I'm out for revenge and maybe if we all help each other we'll have more chances of succeeding." Hope explained. I knew it was a stupid idea but it was so tempting to give in.
"That doesn't sound bad at all." Maddison pondered.
"Plus if we do each other's dirty work, there's less chance of us getting caught." Hope said.
"That's bullshit. We all go to the support group so the cops would find out." Alex replied bluntly.
"The cops are busy finding a big drug cartel, they're not gonna put a lot of effort in anything other than that." Hope answered.
"I'm in." I told the girls. I didn't know if it was possible to pull this off but one could only dream. I think we could all use some help on our way to justice.
"Me too." Maddison answered.
"Sure." Alex shrugged but I hadn't failed to detect a sliver of hope in her eyes.
"Maybe we should start with one and see how it goes from there." I suggested and the other girls nodded.
"We could start with the youngest." Hope said and everyone turned their heads to Maddison. There was no mistake possible, she looked so young.
