Chapter 50: Discovering Secrets

The food was still warm.

Whether they were all hungry or just in a good mood, the three of them - grandmother, grandson, and granddaughter - had almost finished off the entire table of dishes. Grandma Song had even drunk most of the stomach-nourishing soup and the smile on her face never faded.

However, there were still some things that could not be avoided.

Song Yimo was washing dishes in the kitchen. Grandma Song asked Zhai Muyang to watch TV first and then walked in to grab a towel to wipe the dishes while asking, "Has Song Yi said anything?"

"I can tell you anything you want to hear, Grandma. What can you expect her to do?" Song Yimo turned down the volume of the water, "Are you hoping she cares about me?"

Grandma Song sighed. Of course she was hoping for that. Her Yimo was so good, why was that Song Yi so blind?

"I just had a blood test for compatibility today, and I told her that if it's a match, I'll take time off before going to avoid missing my exams."

"Did she agree?"

Song Yimo handed the last dish over and washed her hands with soap. "The decision is mine to make. She's afraid of pressuring me too much and causing me not to go. Grandma, you can rest assured that she can't bully me."

Grandma Song hesitated for a moment before asking, "Will this delay affect that child?"

Song Yimo remained silent, not giving a reply.

Grandma Song quickly added, "I'm not worried about him. I raised you, and I know you the best. Maybe all the kindness and softness of the Song family have fallen on you alone. If anything happens because of the delay in time, you will feel guilty in the future."

"I'm not blaming you." Song Yimo dried her hands, helped Grandma put away the dishes, and then took a towel to dry both of their hands. "I understand this matter. Grandma, let's not mention Song Yi again in the future."

Grandma Song sighed heavily again, patted her hand, and they walked out of the kitchen together.

Zhai Muyang had been observing the situation in the room and only relaxed when they came out looking calm. He checked the time and said, "Grandma, Yimo, I have to go back to the hotel. I'll come over early tomorrow."

"When you come back, of course, you'll stay at home, not at a hotel." Grandma Song frowned, "The house is small, but you can still fit in. Yimo, go and tidy up your room. Muyang will sleep in your bed tonight, and you and I will sleep together."

"Grandma, there's no need for that..."

Grandma Song was not pleased. "What do you mean, no need for that? If you find the house too small, then go stay in a hotel."

Zhai Muyang wouldn't feel inconvenienced. He felt very comfortable in this house. He almost wanted to stay here permanently, but it was only a two-bedroom apartment. He couldn't really take over Yimo's bed.

Song Yimo probably guessed what her brother was thinking and said with a smile, "Go ahead and stay. There's nothing private in my room and there's a computer to check emails."

Upon hearing her say that, Zhai Muyang didn't refuse. "Then I won't be polite."

Grandma Song immediately smiled, "There's no need to be polite with family. It's getting late, Yimo, go and tidy up, don't use the computer tonight, rest well."

"I know."

Song Yimo went back to her room, changed the sheets and pillowcases, put away anything that might make her brother uncomfortable, and made sure nothing was left out. She then came out with her pajamas in hand, "Dage, there are no pajamas you can wear at home, and there are no clothes for changing. You'll have to make do for one night."

"Alright, don't worry too much, go wash up and sleep. Grandma has already gone to bed." Zhai Muyang escorted her to the door and gestured for her to go inside, "See you tomorrow."

Song Yimo hesitated for a moment, still a little worried. "Dage, if you need anything, let me know."

Zhai Muyang tapped her forehead and opened the door, pushing her inside. "Just rest assured and sleep well."

As she watched the door close in front of her, Song Yimo rubbed her forehead and turned around, only to see Grandma smiling at her.

"Grandma, why are you so happy?"

"Happy? Of course, I'm happy. It's been a long time since we had a third person in this house."

Song Yimo felt a tinge of sadness. Song Yi and Song Zhi rarely came back, and there were no close relatives who visited frequently. She never brought friends or classmates back to stay. Come to think of it, since Grandpa's passing, this was the first time the house had three occupants.

At this moment, Grandma was so happy about the addition of this extra person that she couldn't stop smiling. It was evident how lonely she must have been all this time, and the thought of Song Yimo made her feel uncomfortable.

Holding Grandma's soft waist, Yimo said, "Let's have Dage come over more often."

Grandma Song gently stroked her granddaughter's back. "Not just come over often, but come back home."

"Yes, yes, I know. If you add a grandson, the whole neighbourhood will know by tomorrow morning."

"It's good for them to know. I hope the entire Xinghu County knows too."

The old house had poor sound insulation, and Zhai Muyang leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, listening openly at the wall corner with a raised corner of his mouth.

If it weren't for knowing that Yimo had a strong sense of pride, Grandma would never have accepted expensive gifts. He really wanted to buy a flat in the best neighborhood and move the two treasures to live there, one room for each person, creating a home for the three generations.

But living in this cramped space was also good, cozy, and lively. Even if he were to buy a house in the future, it wouldn't be a large one. A big house would feel empty, with echoes in conversation, something Grandma would definitely not like.

As there were no sounds coming from inside, Zhai Muyang quietly turned off the living room light and went back to Yimo’s room.

Yimo's room was small with few belongings - an old-fashioned wardrobe, a bed in a classic style, and a desk that had seen better days. The only thing that seemed out of place was the new computer on top, not quite fitting in with the room's overall aesthetic.

Zhai Muyang didn't go through Yimo's things. Although he was very curious, he had no intention of prying into her privacy. If he wanted to know something, he would ask directly.

Sitting at the computer, he opened it and found a simple interface with only a few icons. He checked a few emails, none of which were urgent. After a quick scan, he logged out of the email and prepared to shut down the computer and go to sleep.

As the cursor hovered over the bottom left corner and he was about to click off, his eyes inadvertently caught sight of a folder named 'Du (渡)'. Intrigued by the singular word, he wondered if this was related to Yimo's schoolwork. He moved the cursor over and clicked to open it.

It was a large folder with many documents, each numbered in order. Zhai Muyang raised an eyebrow and clicked on the first one. He continued to open the second, then the third... until he stopped at the fourteenth, rubbing his forehead and looking at the folder.

Had he stumbled upon a remarkable secret of Yimo's?

Would Yimo be willing to share this secret with him?

After some thought, he typed 'Du (渡)' into the web browser. The slow network speed gradually revealed information that confirmed his suspicions. He then clicked on the top result.

He was familiar with this website. Those who didn't know about it wouldn't be aware of its existence, but a considerable number of people liked to visit it. He had heard assistant Tong Mo speak highly of it in the office, praising the quality of the novels on the site.
