Sam wasn't in the nursery anymore. He had headed to bed once Ethan was asleep. I went into our room where he was sitting, waiting for me.
"Hey babe."
"Don't you 'babe' me." I snapped
"What's gotten into you?" He asked.
"What's gotten into me? How about the fact you lied to my face and nearly got Dean killed?"
"Calm down. Please."
"No. I won't calm down. I'm giving you one chance to explain."
"Ok. I wanted to spend time with you and the baby. I don't know when that turned into a crime. We agreed in the beginning that Dean and I would take turns going on hunts. He didn't force me to go with him. And I know I shouldn't have lied, but I knew you'd be pissed."
"We agreed you would take turns unless it was too big for one person. Dean told you it was too big for just him. He didn't force you because do you not realize that he didn't want to make a big argument and drag me into it? You nearly got him killed Sam."
"I'm sorry baby. Ok? I'm sorry I know it was wrong. I was stupid and I don't deserve you to forgive me or anything. I just wanted to spend some time with you and Ethan and I thought he could handle it."
"He told you he couldn't handle it. And sorry is not gonna cut it this time Sam. I'm really mad at you."
"I'm sorry. I don't know what else to say. Just please relax, and let's get some sleep." I shook my head and started walking out of the room. I was just gonna spend the night on the couch. I was too mad to look at him without screaming at him. "Where are you going?"
"To the couch. Goodnight." I said before slamming the door shut. I walked to the couch, and laid down to sleep.
I was woken up in the middle of the night by Dean.
"Dean?"
"Hey, I got up for a drink. Why are you on the couch."
"I'm too mad to sleep with Sam. He hardly acknowledged he did anything wrong."
"That bad?" Dean asked as he sat at the end of the couch by my feet. I nodded sadly.
"I just want him to understand why I am mad. He nearly let you die. It's not right to make him hurt, but I need to get away from him to think and relax without being on the verge of a screaming match. I just need some air- clear my head. Do you think I could borrow the car tomorrow morning?" I asked hesitantly
"You have every right to be mad. Yeah, you can borrow it. Where are you going? I promise I won't tell Sam."
"Really? You're letting me borrow your baby? I just want to go to the hotel down the road and just relax with Ethan and just think and have some time to myself and relax. There's been a lot going on and I don't need to be caught up in Sam being a mess."
"Yeah. Here." He said, walking to the counter, grabbing his keys, and giving them to me. "Leave when you need to. If we are all up, let me know and I'll distract him. You've got a lot to think about with Ethan and everything without all this Sam mess. You deserve some relaxation." He said as I stuck the keys in my pocket.
"Thanks Dean."
"No problem. Sorry to wake you."
"It's ok." I said before going back to sleep. I woke up before the guys were up. I knew they wouldn't be up for an hour or two. I went into the nursery, grabbed Ethan and the diaper bag, and started to head out. I scribbled a note to Dean before I left.
'I'm heading out. I'll be back tonight. Feel free to text or call me. You know where I am.' I slid it under his door and left. I strapped Ethan in his car seat and headed out. I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel.
There was a nice elderly woman at the front desk. "What ya staying for?"
"Just needed to get away from someone for a bit. I'll be leaving tonight." She nodded in understanding and cut the price of the room in half since I wasn't staying a full night. She handed me the key and I went into the room. It had one queen bed in it. It was nice to be able to just lay in bed in the peace and quiet. I leaned myself up against the headboard with Ethan in my arms. I had the tv on some random cooking show, but I wasn't watching it. I was just thinking
~Dean's POV~
"Dean?" Sam asked when I was up.
"Yeah Sam?"
"Where's Miranda and Ethan?"
"She left for a while."
"Where, how long, why?"
"I'm not telling you where or how long, and you know why."
"Why won't you tell me? And why did she leave?"
"I told her I wouldn't tell you. And dude, she left because she's pissed at you. You really screwed this one up."
"I don't get why she's so mad."
"You nearly let me get killed and you lied to her face. How can you really not see how that would make her mad."
"Because Dean..." He said before shaking his head and mumbling something.
"What did you say?"
"I was protecting her and Ethan ok?"
"What are you talking about?"
"I know Ethan isn't anywhere near 6 months old yet, but I'm scared that the freaking demon is gonna come and find them and kill them both while we are on a hunt. She doesn't know all about the hunting stuff like we do. She can't protect herself."
"Sam, nothing can get in the bunker. We are the only ones who can get in and who know where it is."
"I know that, but I just don't want another person I care about to die ok?"
"Well you almost let me die because of that." I said with an angry edge.
"I'm sorry Dean. I really am. She's probably never gonna come back. Gah! I'm such an idiot. She probably thinks even more now that I'm gonna leave her or kick her out after how bad I made her feel and after I basically said I don't deserve her." He said, as he ran his fingers through his hair. "I just want her back Dean. Please. I need her. I can't lose her."
"It's ok. She's coming back. Don't worry. She told me she is. If you want, I'll go talk to her. I'll tell her the gist. Then, when she's ready to come back, you can discuss."
"Please do." He said sadly.
I left and walked the couple blocks to the hotel. I went in to the lady at the counter. "Can you tell me what room Katherine is staying in?" I asked, knowing she used the fake ID.
"Are you the guy she ran away from?"
"No. That was my brother. If you don't believe me, come with me to the door and she'll tell you." She did just that. I knocked. She opened the door.
"Dean. What are you doing here?" Miranda asked.
"Is this the guy you wanted to get away from?" The lady asked her.
"No no, I was getting away from his brother. He's my friend." The old lady nodded and I went inside.
