~Sam's POV~

We walked out into the kitchen. Dean was sitting alone at the table eating some breakfast. Miranda was walking next to me, but trying to use my height to shield herself from Dean.

"Dean, we need to talk about last night. And I mean talk, not get mad and storm out." I said strictly.

"Fine." Miranda came out from behind me and the three of us sat down. Ethan was playing in his room so we didn't have to worry about him walking in. "There's nothing more to talk about. I'm mad because she almost got us killed."

"Dean, do you not realize how simple her mistake was? Not every demon is obviously a demon right away, and killing one doesn't always instantly make you think they will come after you."

"Come on, Sammy. We know if you kill something then the rest of them will come after you. That's part of the basics of hunting."

"But Dean, she didn't reali-"

"Can I say something?" She asked as she cut me off.

"Go ahead." I told her.

"Yes, I knew that they would come after me, I just didn't know they would find me. It was so long ago and in a completely different part of the country. But either way, it was kill him or die; so take your pick Dean." She said angrily as she got up and went to play with Ethan.

"Way to go, Dean."

"What? She almost got us killed. I have a right to be mad."

"Well you're not acting like you're just mad."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you're acting like you'd rather she have died so these demons aren't after us. Is that really how you feel about her, Dean?" I asked accusingly.

"Come on man, you know I don't want her dead."

"Do I? Because you've been acting like you do even if it is unintentional. Do you have any idea how that must make her feel? She was bawling her eyes out to me last night because she could tell you hated her even though you promised not to."

"I don't hate her, Sam. She almost got you and Ethan killed. I have a right to be mad. Why aren't you mad at her?"

"You can be mad, but there's a difference between being mad and acting like she doesn't matter and all she does is screw stuff up. I'm not mad because, Dean, it's a simple mistake. How many times have we screwed up? And worse than her too?" He sighed. He got up and walked to Ethan's room.

~Dean's POV~

"Hey E, can I talk to your mom for a bit?"

"Sure Dean." He said.

"I'll be right back bud." Miranda told him.

She came back out to the table with Sam and I, and cautiously sat down. "Miranda." I started.

"Let me say something first. I thought you cared about me and Ethan. I thought you loved us. It's all a lie isn't it? You wish I had been killed by the demon I was dating so that you wouldn't be fighting all these demons now, don't you? What happened to not hating me? I can tell you do." She asked as she leaned into Sam who put his arm around her.

"Baby. He doesn't hate you. Trust me on that."

"Trust you? Trust you? I know you don't hate me for this, but how do you expect me to trust you that he supposedly doesn't hate me if he's making it blatantly obvious that he does. He hates me and is basically acting like he wishes I was dead, so don't you dare tell me to trust you. You saying that just proves that I can't." She snapped. She was really upset and high strung, so he disregarded those comments.

"Miranda, I don't hate you. I'm just mad."

"Then why are you acting like a freaking jerk? You're being the biggest jerk ever. I thought my ex husband was bad, but you are far worse than anything he did. Even the demon I dated who actually tried to kill me, right now, you're acting worse than him and you're not even a monster." Sam placed a hand on her shoulder hoping to calm her, but to no avail.

"Look, this isn't an excuse, but things have been a lot tougher on me since you started staying with us. We've got Ethan to take care of. I love the kid to death, but it's hard sometimes. You and Sam fight, meaning I have to get involved. Sam and I don't really get to be brothers much anymore except on hunts. And now we know why there've been so many demons after us, and it took me over the edge ok? I do love you guys, and I wouldn't wish for a second that you, Ethan, or Sam were dead." I said truthfully.

"Why didn't you tell us this?"

"In case you haven't noticed, I don't exactly do 'chick flick moments' I'm not a sensitive guy. I never have been. I don't like showing that side."

"Well, if you had, we probably wouldn't have to be having this conversation right now." She said with an angry edge still present.

"I know. I should have. I know that you killing him and not telling us was a simple mistake and I never should have gotten mad about it." She nodded.

"Will you tell Ethan why the demon was after me? He was wondering yesterday." She asked after calming down.

"Why me?" I asked.

"You worked a miracle with telling him about Sam not being his dad. He's calm around you." I never really thought about it, but even from the beginning, he was always calmer around me.

"Ok. Sure." I replied and headed to his room. "Hey E. Can we talk?"

"Sure."

"Ok. I need to tell you something, but you can't get mad at mommy. She made a mistake, and she's sorry for doing it."

"Ok." He replied cautiously.

"A long time ago, before she knew me and Sam, your mom was dating someone. He turned out to be a demon. Her mom was a hunter like Sam and I, so she taught your mom a little bit about how to protect herself. Your mom killed him because he was gonna hurt her. Because she killed him, all the demons want her dead. She didn't think about them being after her, so she didn't tell us. If she had told us, we could have protected you and your mom better. That's why the demon took you."

"Oh. Ok." He replied calmly.

"You aren't mad?"

"No. Mom didn't think about them being after her. Does she think I'm mad?"

"She thinks you're gonna be." Just then, he walked out of his room, and I followed behind.

"Mommy." He started as we got to where they were sitting at the table. "I'm not mad. Dean told me you thought I would be, but I'm not." She scooped him up in a hug.

"Thanks buddy. Love you."

"Love you too mommy." He replied. We spent the rest of the day just hanging out and trying to find a new case.
