~Miranda's POV~

"Mommy, mommy." Ethan asked as he tugged on my pants. He was growing up so fast. He was already 5 and would be turning 6 in a couple months. I picked him up.

"Yeah, buddy?"

"Can daddy take me for ice cream?" I looked at my watch.

"It's not too late and you already ate dinner, so yeah. Go ahead."

"Thank you mommy. I love you."

"Love you too Ethan." I said as I ruffled his long, brown, curly, shoulder length hair. He ran out the door and back to Sam.

~Sam's POV~

I strapped Ethan into his booster seat and we headed out. There was a really good ice cream place a few minutes from the bunker.

"So what flavor are you gonna get, Ethan?"

"I don't know."

"Well you have a lot of choices."

"Too many." I couldn't help but chuckle. We pulled up to the ice cream place and headed inside. There wasn't much of a line. I picked Ethan up so he could see all the ice cream. "What's that one?" He asked, pointing at a really dark brown ice cream.

"Double chocolate chunk."

"I want that one daddy. Can I get it? Please?"

"Alright. We'll take one double chocolate chunk and one chocolate chip cookie dough." He watched in awe as the lady put the ice cream in a cup for him and in a cone for me. I paid and we picked a seat. We sat there for a while just eating our ice cream while I attempted to be funny. I'm pretty sure he was laughing more at me being a dork than at the jokes.

"Hey, Daddy? Can I ask a question?"

"Sure."

"What is hunting all about? What do you do?"

"Where did you hear about that?"

"I heard you and uncle Dean talking about it a couple days ago."

"Ummm.... Let me think about how to explain it. It's hard......." I started. "Let me ask your mom about how to explain it. She knows the best way to tell you." I pulled out my phone and called Miranda.

"What's up babe?" She asked

"Hey, um, Ethan just asked about it."

"He asked about hunting?"

"Yes. What do I tell him?"

"Umm, I don't know Sam. I thought he'd be older when he found out."

"I know. He heard me and Dean talk about it."

"I guess just tell him the gist simply. If we lie to him now it'll just cause problems later. Just say it gently."

"I don't want to scare him."

"He's gonna find out someday."

"Ok. Love you."

"Love you too." She said. I hung up.

"Ok Buddy, I'll tell you about it, but let's do it in the car. It's a secret and I don't want other people to hear." He nodded. I strapped him back in. I got in the drivers seat and turned to look at him. "Ok. I'm a hunter and so is Dean. We hunt monsters. There's a lot of scary stuff out there that tries to hurt people. It's the kind of stuff you're afraid hides under your bed and in your closet. Dean and I hunt them to try to save people."

"Oh." He said as he thought about it. "So you guys are like superheroes who can't fly?" I chuckled. We were far from it. We couldn't always save everyone.
