A month after the birth of their daughter, Vlad and Evangeline had settled into a peaceful domestic life.
Their family was small but content- until little Adrienne would start wailing at some ungodly hour of the night, rousing her parents from their sleep to come comfort her.
"All a part of motherhood," Vlad would shrug as he'd hand Evangeline their screaming infant to breastfeed.
"As if you'd know anything about motherhood," she'd grumble to get met with Vlads signature cocky smirk- one she'd grown quite accustomed to.
The two would then return to bed, knowing that within an hours time they would once again be woken up to either change a diaper, comfort, or feed their daughter.
And you know, it really got to a point.
"I'm exhausted," Evangeline groaned one morning, leaning against the headboard.
It had been a long night.
They'd been woken up nine times. Yes, she counted.
"Give her a few months," Vlad sighed. "She'll grow out of it. Hopefully."
"Hopefully," she repeated sarcastically.
"Did you not read any of those books I gave you?" Vlad asked "The ones about the newborn stage? You sound surprised by all this."
"I did, actually," she responded "And I'm not surprised. Just annoyed. Any ideas on how to fix this?"
"It's not a medical condition, darling. There isn't some sort of cure. We just need to wait it out."
"Well either way, I'd like somebody to look into it. A professional. Because this isn't going to be sustainable in the long run- she's only getting worse, and soon enough we'll be up all night," she insisted.
He sighed again, thinking her words over for a moment before relenting.
"Fine. I'll look into it. In the meantime, just... try and take it easy, alright? She can't help it."
"I know she can't. I don't blame her or anything. It's just a pain is all," she sighs "I'm thinking of penning my old nanny- back when I was a girl. Maybe she could provide us with some sort of advice."
"Do that," he nodded. "We'll cross examine what she says with the words of the healer to deduce some sort of plan."
"Okay," she mumbled sleepily, a hand running up over her face and to her eyes, where she began to rub.
"Hm. Sleepyhead."
"Shut up..." she mumbled, her eyes closing as she buried her face into the crook of his arm.
"Think I can get a little more sleep before breakfast?"
Her voice came out sounding slurred, thick and groggy. He chuckled at the sound.
"Maybe. Half an hour left till breakfast. Think that's enough for you?"
"Better than nothing," she grumbled quietly before her breathing stilled, body going limp against him.
He smiled softly, running a hand through her hair.
"Poor thing," the vampire mumbled under his breath, brow furrowing in concern.
These next few months weren't going to be fun.
