You arrived to work as usual and witnessed the absolute mess the office was.
Your colleagues were stressing out, not knowing how this happened at all.
Gummi was supposed to be in custody, how the hell did she attack?
-"Y/N! I'm so glad you're here... She attacked again! She killed two people! Isn't she supposed to be in custody? Is this just an imitator? What do you think?" Glenn attacked you with questions.
You grabbed his shoulders and led him to a chair, making him seat down and breathe before you spoke.
-"Show me the pictures. I'll check if it's our clown..." You replied. Your colleague nodded and went to get you the pictures that arrived this morning.
You looked at the two bodies intensely, as if you were analyzing them.
-"That sure seems like her..." You said, letting out a sigh. "It could be an imitator, but the message she left. She's taunting us. She knew we would capture the wrong person."
Glenn looked at you with a defeated expression. Your team had sent an innocent person to custody. She was treated like a monster, she was told so many offensive and bad things.
She was innocent. That woman in custody was not Gummi.
-"Then... How did that DNA get there?" Glenn asked, looking desperate to find an answer.
-"Maybe she planted that on purpose, just to mess with us and get us out of her way for a while." You explained.
-"Or maybe she changed the evidence." Your other colleague Luka said. He was looking at you with a weird expression.
-"How could she even do that? There's no way she knew we had her DNA right?" Glenn asked, looking at Luka confused.
-"Maybe she works with us. A detective knows we had the evidence, and it should know how to change it without being caught, not to mention Gummi has almost never been caught on camera." Luka said, staring at you.
He suspected you.
-"You think I did it?" You questioned him. "I've been chasing these two psychos for years. You really think I am chasing myself?"
-"That's not possible. Y/N was even attacked by the Miles County Clown! Why would she help him?" Glenn said, siding with you.
-"I don't know, maybe she's crazy." Luka said, walking towards you and Glenn. "Don't you remember when all she would do is talk about the Miles County Clown? We had to leave the case just so she would focus on other cases. It's clear something was up back then. Now it makes sense. She saw when the DNA was taken, she knew which laboratory had it... Maybe it's been her all along. And look at her foot. She's been limping for some time and according to Sienna Shaw, she hurt Gummi on her foot."
-"That's your proof? We know these two are insanely smart. Maybe she remembered she was stabbed that night and realized we had already noticed her DNA was there. There's not much laboratories around town. It's logical that proof like that would be taken to the best one in Miles County. And by the way, I fell and got my ankle strained. I have the medical diagnosis certificate if you want to see it. You're blaming your colleague for nothing. Maybe my first theory is correct and she just left that blood to mess with us." You explained, looking back at Luka with an angered expression.
-"I went back to the crime scene this morning. I took pictures of the blood splatter we took the sample from and compared it to one we had from the first time we investigated it. It's different. Someone tampered with it and left no clue." Luka said, crossing his arms.
-"That doesn't prove I did it. Maybe what I said is correct, she just used logic. She's sneaky and smart, do you really think she wouldn't think of a way to get out of it once she realized she could be caught?" You argued back, your eyes getting puffy as anger and frustration washed over you.
-"I'm just saying it's weird. You're the only woman in our team and you saw that sample being taken. She knew exactly what sample was hers and where it was." He argued back.
The only time he had ever been helpful in an investigation was this time. The only time he had decided to be smart was the one time you needed him to stay dumb.
You had to find a way to prove him wrong, or everything would be ruined.
You couldn't kill him, it would be to suspicious and obvious.
You just had to convince him somehow...
-"Maybe she didn't know which one was her sample and she found it. Labels are also a logical thing, how do you think the lab knows which sample is which? But you know what? Fine, believe whatever you want. I can't believe you would accuse me of something like that without proof after years working together." You said, turning around and deciding to investigate on your own.
In the inside you were so scared and frustrated.
He suspected you.
All your plans, all your work could be ruined.
You couldn't let that happen.
