Jason's pov

It's a week before the wedding but first, the fourth of July. We can see the fireworks from our house so we clink our beers together and sit on a blanket in the front yard. "I love living in the country. It's just so calm." She whispers, holding my hand and intertwining our fingers. She lays her head on my shoulder as the fireworks explode over head. The keys are in and music is playing. Right now it's Toby Keith's courtesy of the red, white, and blue. She hums along to it as colors fill the sky. Then something doesn't feel right in the pit of stomach. She's still smiling against my shoulder so nothin' is wrong with her. My suspicion increases when I hear leaves crunch underfoot. I put my arm around her and glance around nervously. Is somebody stalking us?

Miranda's pov

I feel an arm clamp tightly on my arm and yank me back. Jason stands up, instantly pulling out his pistol. "Let her go!" He gasps. A switchblade is in the other guy's hand. Jason clenches his jaw in fury. "Let her go!" He says again, his eyes narrowed. He runs at him, slamming him against the truck and I fall to the side. The guy falls unconscious. I stand up. "Who is that?!" I gape. "Probably some nutjob." He mutters, angrily glaring at him, "I just wish I knew how he got our address." He calls the police and holds my hand. "You okay?" He asks. "Just fine." I say. The cops arrive and handcuff him. "It's the escaped murderer. Thank goodness you caught him." He says. "I'll beat the shit outta anyone layin' a hand on my girl." He says, making me smile. I squeeze his hand and he glances down at me with a smile. "Noone's gonna hurt you while I'm around." He says, squeezing my hand back. We share a kiss as the cops leave and a bright red firework explodes behind us. The sparks settling in the shape of a heart.

*one week later*

Jason's pov

"I now pronounce you husband and wife." The preacher says. My heart beats faster than ever. I hold her hands and we kiss. A standing ovation follows us out and Tim McGraw pats my shoulder in congratulations. My hands are shaking and sweaty from nerves. I don't even know why I'm nervous. We get in my truck and my destination is that little hideaway on her Grandma's farm. I think I'm not the only nervous one. I can tell it worries her coming back here but we have to get to the bottom of this. I'm still wearing the watch, the tarnished gold shining in my face. I park my truck. "You ready?" I ask. She nods, getting out. Her hand clamps on my arm. We walk through the doorway and our whole world changes!

Sorry it's so short.
