Chapter 26: Support System

i laid on my bed in my old room as i listened to my mum and dad shout at each other.

mum and i had gotten back from a party and while we were out dad got himself drunk.

he wasn't a nice drunk.

i could hear my mum question him on why he acts like this, why he allows himself to get into this state

dad wasn't making much sense back but continued to basically look down on my mum

i pulled my childhood teddy bear closer to me as i heard the argument get even more intense

it went quite, something that is never good.

i heard my mum shout for him not to come any closer to her.

i shot up, my breathing ragged as i took in my surroundings

alessia sleeping peacefully next to me.

it was just a dream, a nightmare

i brought my hand to my hair, running it through it as i tried to collect myself

i needed to get out of here for a few minutes

i slowly and quietly got out of bed and made my way downstairs, getting a glass of water and sitting down at the island.

i slowly woke up, turning over and reaching out for kai.

it was too early to be up right now.

my hand didn't meet kais body but instead kais side of the mattress

my eyes opened as i took in my surroundings

where was kai?

i got up and slowly made my way downstairs, seeing the kitchen light on

i walked into the kitchen to see kai staring down at her glass of water, sitting on one of the chairs at the island

i walked over to her slowly, sliding my arms around her waist and gently pulling her into me, her back to my front

"what's wrong kai?" i whispered as i rested my head against the top of hers

"nothing less" she mumbled out, her head coming to rest against my chest

"kai" i said, soft but sternly

my hands moving up to her shoulders and i slowly worked the tension out of them

it was silent for a little while, i knew she was going to tell me soon i just had to wait a little bit

"just had a nightmare" kai said after a while

"about what?" i asked as i pressed a kiss to her neck

"my dad" she said as she started to fiddle with a piece of paper in front of us

"what happened?" i asked as i messed gently with her baby hairs at the back of her neck

"just from when i was younger less" she said, i knew i wasn't going to get more out of her so i left it at that

"you know your safe at home with me, he isn't around anymore" i reassured her softly

"but he is starting to invade our space now less, i don't like it. I don't like the way he's invading my safe space with you, i don't like how he's getting you involved with my problems" kai ranted

"but i want to be involved with your problems, not matter how bad or good they are" i tried to reassure her

kai stood up, moving herself away from me, going over to the counter on the opposite side

"there's stuff you can and can't get involved in alessia, stuff i don't feel comfortable with you being involved in" kai said a little bit more sternly

"you don't know my dad like i do, i don't want you near him so when he turns up to our house and even tries to talk to you it makes me uncomfortable, makes me question if this is all right... if i'm the right person for you" kai said as she faced away from me

this is why she's been distant with me, i knew it but finally we were having a conversation about it.

"you can't help what your dads like, just because he's not a nice person doesn't mean your not the right person for me kai" i said softly as i watched her place her hands on the counter in front of her

"but i'm still dragging you through my problems less" she said softly, i walked round the counter, lifting one of her hands and placing myself in front of her

"you're not dragging me through anything kai, this is what relationships are about, working through problems like this... sticking together and helping each other out" i said softly as i placed my hand on her cheek, lifting her face so her eyes met mine

"i want to be involved in your problems kai" i added after a little while

the doubt was clear in her eyes, she was still struggling with the whole concept

"is that why you've been distant with me recently" i asked, her eyes dropping immediately

i moved mine to meet her, a soft smile on my face

"i'm sorry" she mumbled as she lifted her head again

"don't be sorry, just let me be your support system... don't bottle it all up and try distance yourself away from me kai" i said as i ran the pad of my thumb back and fourth over her cheekbone

she nodded her head

"okay, i'll try" she said softly

i leaned forward and placed a slow kiss to her lips, kai chasing after my lips making me giggle

"we okay now?" i asked as we pulled away from each other

kai had a soft smile on her face, nodding as she tucked her head into my neck, my hand going to the back of her neck and running my nails up and down it

"come on let's get some more sleep before your training" i said as i reached down with my other hand for her hand

i interlocked our hands as kai still stood still against me

eventually she moved off me, i squeezed her hand as i walked us up to our room

i settled down as kai laid herself on top of me, again digging her head into my neck and wrapping her arms around my waist

"comfy?" i asked as my hands went to her back

i felt her nod and she placed a single kiss to my neck

"night kai" i mumbled into her hair

"night love" she mumbled back...

Life's too busy so i can't really tell you when i can and when i can't give you regular updates.
