Cassie's POV
The storm had passed in the night, leaving behind a soft, scent of rain.
We had fallen asleep in the fort, tangled in blankets and pillows. It was a mess of warmth and peace. I never wanted to leave.
Lando's arm was draped over me, his fingers tracing idle patterns on my skin as he watched me wake up. He didn't say anything, just nudged me gently awake. I didn't want to move, the warmth of his body was the best kind of cocoon. But the light was peeking through the cracks in our blanket fort, telling me it was time to face the day.
I groaned and nuzzled deeper into his chest, my eyes still closed. "What time is it?" I mumbled.
"Late," he murmured back, his voice thick with sleep. "But the rain's gone."
He moved his arms, stretching, his t-shirt riding up to reveal the lines of his stomach. Of course this was the same moment I decided to open my eyes, so I was greeted with the sight of his abs. God, he had abs.
Stop staring, stop staring, stop staring.
My brain screamed at me, but my eyes had a mind of their own. But he was watching me, with a knowing smile playing on his lips. He knew I was ogling him, and he was enjoying it.
"You know," He began, his voice still a bit sleepy. "If you're going to keep staring, I might have to charge."
I slapped a pillow over my face, heat creeping up my neck. "Shut up," I mumbled, but I could feel the smile spreading under the pillow.
Lando chuckled and tried to pull the pillow away, but I held tight. My face was buried in it, and I could feel the heat of my own embarrassment burning my cheeks. He managed to tug it away and leaned down to press a gentle kiss to my forehead. "Good morning," he murmured.
I peeked out at him, his eyes shining with amusement. "I hate you," I mumbled, but there was no venom behind the words.
"For someone who hates me, you sure are clingy," Lando teased, his fingers ghosting along my bare skin, sending a shiver up my spine.
"It's because you're so warm," I mumbled, curling back into him. My hands found their way around his waist, holding onto him tightly.
"I'm not complaining." He smiled, his fingers smoothing my hair away from my face. I groaned into his chest, not moving an inch.
But he did move, his hand slipping under my chin to tilt my face up to his. "C'mon, darling." He said, his voice low and warm, the kind of voice that could make you want to stay in bed forever.
