Things were good.

Everything was good.

Too good, if you asked me. The kind of good that makes you want to hold your breath, afraid that if you exhale, it'll all just vanish. But I didn't dare question it.

"Run me over." I muttered.

Lando looked over at me for a moment. I had been nervously fiddling with my firefly ring for the entire ride to the track, the band spinning in circles around my finger. I normally wouldn't be this nervous since last time I really think I got used to the whole famous, cameras, crowds part of the weekend. Of course I would never get used to the part where he goes 200 mph with only a car and a helmet between him and the track. That part was always terrifying.

But today was different. Because we had special guests.

Guess what I had been surprised by?

My charming family. Oh, yes. Horror of horrors, nightmare of nightmares, sucky thing of sucky thing. It wasn't actually that bad I was being a bit dramatic.

They had been very curious to officially meet Lando and had basically invited themselves. But Lando, ever the gentleman, obliged. And however polite he was being with them, he did tell me that if they start acting up, he had his ways of dealing with it. I had seen before what those ways were, and I was both slightly terrified and a bit excited for it.

I mean, I know I shouldn't but I couldn't help it. If I didn't have the guts to insult her to her face, why not let him do it. And he would. Happily. He had been dying to. But she was my family, and even though she treated me like a second-hand towel, she was still my step-mother. And he knew it.

"I'd rather not." Lando answered with a small smile. "Believe it or not, but I'm quite fond of you."

I rolled my eyes and sighed. "That does get in the way of things."

"Darling, I'm not going to run you over. You don't get to die if I'm not going with you." He said firmly.

I glanced at him. "Oh, really? And who decides when I get to go?"

His eyes met mine for a second before returning to the road. His hand slipped over and gave my thigh a slow squeeze. "I do. When you go I go. That's the deal."

I smiled, my hand finding the one on my thigh and giving it a squeeze of my own. He glanced over and grinned before turning his gaze back to the road. I brought his hand up to my mouth and kissed his knuckles gently. "Thank you," I murmured.

The track was bustling with activity when we arrived. Lando rolled down the window a little to wave at the fans waiting for him and I smiled at them. It was amazing how all this felt normal to me now, when not even a month ago I had just thought of him as Lando, not Lando Norris, F1 superstar.
