"Nana you haven't been discharged yet I'm not leaving." Beomgyu said as he sat next to her.
"Oh hush, I'm leaving today you've been stuck in this room with me since I woke up. It's the lantern festival, you're spending it with Yeonjun, yes?"
Beomgyu sighed and shook his head a little. "Nana you are relentless. Yeonjun and I...we're just friends—"
"But you like him. I can tell." She said with her head tilted a little. Her grandson didn't say anything and she frowned a little. "Beommie?"
"...I just..." his voice faded as he stared down at his lap. "I don't think...I don't want to mess this up. I do like him a lot Nana but after what happened with—"
"Listen to me." She held his hand. "You can't let your past scare you into running away from something that can be good for you. I see the way he looks at you, he's always there for you, you told me. I think he'll be good for you. Give it a chance."
Beomgyu looked at her and gave her a weak smile. "Okay."
She was discharged and taken home. Beomgyu went home and as soon as he sat on his bed his phone started to ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey Beomgyu hyung, you're going to the festival right. I'm already here Taehyunnie and he hasn't heard from Yeonjun hyung yet."
Beomgyu blinked a few times. "You're hanging out with Taehyun...by yourself?"
The line went quiet.
"Hueningkai how long has this been going on?" He exclaimed. "You and Taehyun are besties all of a sudden?"
"Ummmm...I think I hear someone calling me gotta go bye!" And he hung up.
Beomgyu gasped and then stood up as he quickly started getting ready. He was going to kill Hueningkai for not telling him about Taehyun. While he was doing his makeup his phone rang again, he quickly grabbed it and answered.
"Hueningkai I swear I'm gonna kill you!"
"Uh oh." Yeonjun said. "What happened?"
"Hyung!" His face got hot and red. "Sorry I didn't know you were–ahem. Hueningkai is just withholding information that no best friend should do. Nothing serious."
Yeonjun laughed a little. "I see. You're going to the festival right?"
"Yeah I'm getting ready now."
"Good, I'm on the way to your place to pick you up."
"Wait what?"
"See you soon." And he hung up.
Beomgyu stared at his phone and then panicked. He was getting ready to see Hueningkai not Yeonjun and his makeup didn't look at that good. He would need another hour to look ready enough to see Yeonjun. He went back to the bathroom and started to get ready...again.
His maid helped him with his hanbok and as soon as they finished Yeonjun texted him that he was out front. He thanked his maid and quickly went outside to see him.
"Hi hyung!" He waved happily as he walked downstairs.
Yeonjun was standing next to his car and when he saw him his heart skipped a beat. Beomgyu was wearing a mint green and pink hanbok while Yeonjun was wearing a light blue and white one.
"You look...you look amazing."
Beomgyu blushed and looked away from him. "Thank you hyung. You do too."
Yeonjun opened the door for him and he got in. They drove into Seoul for the festival and got the lanterns. They enjoyed the parade and clapped to the music, they also enjoyed the street food that was being sold there.
"Have you seen Hueningkai yet?" Yeonjun asked.
"No, I'm going to talk to him after. I want him to enjoy the festival." He said knowing he was with Taehyun. "Are your friends here?"
"Probably but I want to spend this day with you." He said as he nudged him gently.
Beomgyu blushed again as they continued to walk together. "I love the lantern festival. I used to walk with my grandma and grandad over the bridge in the park. We would light a lantern over the pond and send it up to the sky for all of our friends and family who aren't here. Nana is on bed rest so we can't this year."
Yeonjun hummed. "That sounds nice. I'm sorry you couldn't do it this year."
"It's okay. I'm happy I'm with you." He gently held his arm as they walked together.
Yeonjun bit back a large grin as they kept walking. They took pictures together and laughed, enjoying the night before they went back to the car. Beomgyu thought he was heading back to his place but he took a different turn.
"Where are we going?" Beomgyu asked as he looked at Yeonjun.
"To the park."
"The park? Why?"
Yeonjun smiled at him and kept driving. They got to the park and Yeonjun got out and opened his trunk. Beomgyu watched as he pulled out a lantern and grabbed a lighter.
"Your grandma was nice enough to tell me how important this festival is to you and sent me in her place. Would you like to light this lantern with me?"
The tears started almost immediately as he nodded and sniffled. "Yes." He cried.
"Awww." He walked over and hugged him. "Don't cry, this is supposed to be a happy surprise."
"It is, I'm so so happy."
They walked into the park and went to the small bridge over the pond. Beomgyu lit the lantern and they held it together before releasing it up into the sky.
Beomgyu watched it and exhaled gently. The cool spring air kissing his skin as he stood in front of Yeonjun who couldn't stop staring at him.
"Beomgyu?"
Beomgyu looked at him. "Yes hyung?"
He didn't say anything as he took a step forward and reached out slowly brushing a piece of hair out of his face and tucking it behind his ear. His hands trailed along his jawline and he slowly tilted his head up. Beomgyu's lips were parted as he kept staring up at him. He didn't realized that he had stepped even closer and that his head was slowly leaning down closer to Beomgyu's, and maybe he would've because he wasn't thinking about anything other than the fact that Beomgyu looked stunning. He wasn't thinking about what it would mean to cross a line that he didn't see. Feelings he didn't know were there. Desires he didn't know he felt, but the moment ended almost as soon as it started because Yeonjun's phone rang.
He paused and he opened his eyes to see Beomgyu who also opening his own. They looked at each other because Yeonjun backed away, muttering an apology before he answered it.
"Hello?"
"Dude where are you I thought we were gonna go to the bar?" It was Wooyoung.
"I'm...I'm busy right now maybe later. I gotta go." He hung up and they stood in an awkward silence.
"Hyung–"
"It's getting late." He said and gave his a gentle smile. "I should take you home."
A flash of disappointment came across his face for a few seconds. "Okay."
