"Your parents told you to do what?"
Yeonjun was over at Taehyun's house relaxing in his room. They were watching an action movie and eating pizza when he brought up the deal he made with his parents.
"I don't even know how to pretend to like a guy. This is going to take forever."
"Well he's gay. If you're his type it shouldn't be too hard. Just pretend he's...Yeji or something. The better you play along the faster this will go by and then like your parents said, ghost him I guess. It's hard to get out of contracts like that and you dumping their son isn't exactly cause for breaking a contract."
"Since when did you become a lawyer?" He asked taking another bite of his pizza. "As long as this little arrangement doesn't mess with my life I don't care."
"So who's your boyfriend?"
He choked on his pizza and then threw a ball at his head but Taehyun caught it while laughing.
"He's not my boyfriend and I have no idea who it is. My parents just told me the company and about his parents."
Taehyun grabbed his drink. "So when do you meet your husband?"
"I'm gonna fucking kill you. Look. Just don't tell anyone else about this, I have to keep this up so I can get what I want out of this too and then my parents will leave me about of their business."
"Until they retire at least."
"Exactly."
He went back to eating and they forgot about it. When he went back home his mom greeted him at the door.
"Hey honey," she only said that when she wanted something from him. He hated it. "How was Taehyun?"
"Fine."
"Good, good." She brushed some of her hair to the side. "So...we found where the son works. He's a librarian?" She shook her head at the idea. "The one near your old elementary school. Go there, bump into him."
He sighed. "Alright mom. What's his name?"
"Beom something. Beomhan or Beomgo–"
"Beomgyu?"
"Oh yes! That's his name!" She turned him around. "Now go see him."
"I just got back and its late the library should be closed."
"It never hurts to try." She closed the door behind him and he groaned.
"Fuck!" He took his car and drove to the library. He parked and saw a few people walking out but there didn't appear to be anyone inside and the lights were off. "You gotta be fucking kidding me."
He leaned against the wall and took out a box of cigarettes, he took one and started patting his pockets but couldn't find his lighter.
"'Scuse me?"
He looked up and it was Beomgyu walking out of the library. His hair was tied in a ponytail and he was wearing round silver glasses. He walked over to him and Yeonjun held up his cigarette.
"Looks like I came too late and I forgot my lighter."
Beomgyu walked over and took a lighter out of his bag. "I have one."
Yeonjun watched him as he got closer and started thinking.
"Just pretend like he's Yeji."
"Okay, I can flirt with him. Just pretend he's a girl."
He put the cigarette in his mouth and leaned down a little. Beomgyu looked a little nervous but got closer and lit it for him. Yeonjun inhaled as he looked at him and then tilted his head up exhaling slowly.
"Two things went right for me today."
"Two?"
"I got to see you again."
Beomgyu blushed a little and looked away from him. "Ahem, so you decided to come to the library? I've never seen you around before."
"I typically read the same books. I wanted something different this time."
Beomgyu turned his head to look behind him and then looked back at Yeonjun.
"I could let you in for a bit. No one else is here and I don't mind. I-I could give recommendations too if you like."
Yeonjun smiled at him. "I'd appreciate that."
They walked towards the front doors and Beomgyu unlocked them but before they went inside he stopped and pointed to the sign.
"Sorry, no smoking."
He took his cigarette and dropped it before stepping on it.
"Thank you." They walked inside and he locked the doors behind them.
They walked around together.
"Favorite genre?"
"Mysteries, thrillers, action."
Beomgyu started thinking and then grabbed a book from an aisle.
"Behind closed doors." He showed it to him. "Really good, finished it in two days. It's about a wife whose husband is a psychopath and tries to kill her and kidnap her sister."
He perked up. "Wow, sounds good." He looked at it. "Anything else?"
"Ummm...oh, the secret patient. It's another really popular one and I won't tell you anything about it."
Yeonjun chuckled. "Okay, well I can't wait to read them."
He walked him to the counter to check the books out.
"Why do you work here?" Yeonjun asked. "Doesn't it get boring?"
"I enjoy the quiet. I don't do very well in loud and crowded places. Besides, I get to read to the kids everyday Wednesday and I love it."
"Cute."
Beomgyu's ears turned red as he looked away from him. "Here you go." He handed him his books. "We should go so I don't get in trouble."
"Breaking the rules for me. How thoughtful."
They left together and Yeonjun started thinking again. "Can I have your number?" He asked handing his phone to him.
"What for?" He asked as he took his phone and put his number in.
"Maybe to call you some time?"
"You want...to call me?"
"We have books to discuss." He said as he gestured to his books in his hand. "I should let you go though. Hopefully we can hang out again soon." He walked away and Beomgyu bit back a grin as he walked in the other direction.
Yeonjun got in his car and groaned. "This fucking sucks."
