Nicholas must of sensed my nervousness because he let go of me and followed my gaze. He slung an arm over my shoulder protectingly. I don't understand why he is acting as if I'm his...responsibility. Nicholas raised a threatening eyebrow at the boys. All they did was step closer towards us. Nicholas must of sensed something wasn't right because he opened the front door and took me outside without saying a word.
The cold wind howled as we stepped into the opening. I breathed in as I tried to clear my senses. Nicholas stood in front of me observing almost....nervously. I tried to smile but I couldn't. He cleared his throat to speak. "So...are you okay?" He asked sounding raspy. I nodded helplessly. Why is the boy who was one of the reasons I left helping me? Then it clicked, he must pity the girl who left and became what Natalie calls a "sl*t".
"Why are you helping me? Do you pity me or something? do you feel bad I left?" I asked him sounding croaky from crying. He furrowed his eyebrows together, as if he didn't understand what I asked.
"No that definitely isn't it. I-I..I guess I was a coward. I should of stuck up for you from the beginning but I was an idiot" he said looking at me intently.
"Why now? Why not when she slapped me last time? Why not when she said sh*t about my dad? Why now?" I asked him steadily. Nicholas looked down and kicked the rocks on the floor while he ran his fingers through his soft, brown hair. He was avoiding eye contact.
"I knew that she said some stuff. But I didn't realise how bad it was until now" he said finally looking up at me. I sighed and rubbed my face with my hands.
I heard multiple footsteps coming our way. I turned around to see Daniel and his buddies with an evil grin plastered on all their faces. "Nicholas" I whimpered out. I turned back to him as he looked up. His eyes turned dark as they landed on the boys.
"What the hell do they want?" Nicholas hissed as he pushed me behind him.
"We should go" I whispered slightly tugging his arm. He stayed put clearly in no mood to leave.
Daniel came to face to face with Nicholas with a smug smirk. "Move" was all Daniel said. Nicholas stayed put and he scoffed, signifying he wasn't going to move anytime soon. He definitely looked like he could beat Daniel up instantly. "Right. Guys show him a little lesson, maybe then he'll listen" Daniel said, the smug smirk still plastered on his lips. The guys started walking towards Nicholas. I grabbed his arm, tugging him back a little, afraid what they were going to him. Two guys stepped behind Nicholas and quickly grabbed his arms. Nicholas struggled under their big frame. Then another guy punched him in the gut hard. He let out a groan while I squealed out of fright. The guys moved Nicholas so he was now facing me. His white shirt and high tops were now dirty. "Tsk tsk tsk, was little Ava over here being a little b*tch to Natalie?" Daniel took a threatening step towards me. I think he expected me to move back but I didn't, I stayed where I was. Daniel laughed as his fist tightened. He wouldn't hit me, he seemed nice enough when we were dancing. However right then, he looked like a different person.
"Don't you dare f*cking touch her Daniel, or I swear to god I will make you regret it." Nicholas threatened, again trying to escape the big guys' hold. Daniel stepped closer to me again, but this time I did move back. What Nicholas said has got me thinking. There was actually a possibility he would hurt me. My back touched the cold shed that I was now against.
"Looks like your trapped babe." Again, he took a step closer to me. My breathing became uneven and patchy as I tried regaining a sensible breathing pattern. "And Nick" Daniel turned his head so he was looking at a furious Nicholas. "I don't think I'll ever regret this." I was so scared at that moment. Tears finally trickled down my cheek. Daniel brought his face so close to mine, close enough I could hear his heavy breathing "Aw, it's okay gorgeous. It will only hurt for a while." As he spoke his lips hovered over mine threateningly. This only made the tears come down faster. I tried looking at Nicholas but my vision was blurry thanks to the tears running uncontrollably down my face. Daniel grabbed my throat and smacked my head against the shed. I squealed from the sudden movement. I quickly brought my hands up to try and loosen his grip.
"Daniel I swear to god let her go!" Nicholas was now screaming out of complete rage. This just seemed to fuel Daniel's sickening behaviour as he repeatedly hit my head against the shed.
"Why do you even care? Is she one of your thousands of girls you slept with?" Daniel asked laughing. Daniel chucked me against the floor, chuckling to himself a little. I felt nauseous as I lied on the concrete ground. I saw a figure quickly come to view and start to bash Daniel up. Damn my head was throbbing. My eyes slightly widened as I saw Daniel tumble onto the ground, next to me. Nicholas crouched down in front to me looking the most worried I have seen him all night. His shirt was slightly bloody and dirty.
"Ava"he whispered. He slowly wiped the blood off the side of my face. His eyes were so concentrated on mine that it almost made me forget the pain. I sat up and smiled weakly. He gave a sad smile and rubbed my arm. Tinges went down my arm as he did. How did he still look good and have this affect on me after everything that has happened? "I am so sorry" he said, his voice slightly breaking. My heart picked up it's speed once I looked properly at his handsome face. I weakly waved my hand dismissively.
"Don't worry, it isn't your fault. I am fine anyway" I said. I unconsciously rubbed the ache on my head. He saw this and shook his head slowly.
"You're not fine. Do you need to go to the hospital?" He asked. I instantly answered with a "no".
