Lazily, I slumped down on my bed as I searched for Lauren's number. I don't even have many contacts, but I always like to think I do. I found Lauren's number almost immediately and hit call. After a few rings she picked up. "Hello, Ava!"her excited voice came out of the speaker clearly.

"Well hello Miss Lauren, how are you on this very fine day?" I said mastering the best British accent I could.

I heard a disgruntled grunt from Lauren. "It was magnificent....I had to go socialise with people. I mean I don't think they even classify as humans" she said aggravatingly. I knew the thought still vexed her. As I realised how difficult of a day it must of been for her. I felt guilt drown me.

"I'm sorry Lauren" I said sincerely. She gave a light chuckle after hearing my apology.

"Don't blame yourself. It was my fault I didn't go out and make more friends earlier" she said. Hearing this slightly eased the guilt, but it was still there. I placed my hand on my forehead and dragged it through my hair.

"It's still partially my fault though" I huffed. I heard the front door close with a soft thud. Hastily I got off my bed and made my way quietly down the stairs.

"Please don't feel guilty! Anyways, enough of me. You are the one who started at the new school! How was it?" Lauren asked buoyantly. The padded carpet felt soft against my bare feet, but shortly the feeling went as they hit the timber flooring abruptly.

"It was nice. The people there were actually...friendly" I said. I felt like conjuring up a massive smile at how happy I was, to be finally being able to say something good about high school. My mum was now in my eye sight as she looked through the mail. I walked over to her with my phone securely against my ear. I patted her shoulder to get her attention, she turned around smiling. I smiled in return and gestured towards the phone.

"Really? Well, I am happy to hear that" Lauren said. My mum nodded in understanding and after a quick scan of the mail again, she took some of the mail upstairs.

"Thank you. Hey do you want to come to a party with me tonight? Mia, the girl from my primary and some of the other girls are coming too" I said eagerly. I took an intake of breath as I anticipated her answer. Lauren was the only thing that was going to get me through the party.

"Umm..."Lauren said after a moment. Immediately I heard the hesitation in her voice. I walked over to the couch and sat down, with my legs crossed on top of the wooden coffee table. "Ava...they are your friends...I don't know whether they even want me there. I mean wouldn't it be slightly...I don't know awkward" she said slightly anxious. She sounded just like me when I sounded nervous.

"No, don't think like that! She asked me whether I had anyone I wanted to bring. They are all so sweet, seriously Lauren! Please do this for me! You won't regret it. Kids from all different schools would be coming...so you have nothing to worry about" I said using my best persuasive skills. I never was any good at persuading, but I know Lauren to well. I heard her give a defeated sigh and I felt like jumping out of happiness.

"Fine" she deadpanned.

"Oh my gosh! You are the bestest! Come over, so we can choose what we are going to wear. I am sooo excited. Mia is gonna pick us up with two other girls named Emily and Isabel" I said nearly squealing out of excitement. I have never been so excited over something so petty, but the thought of spending a night with my friends was too good. The only low was the actual party. I hate parties, never been and I never thought I would have to.

"Eugh...shush! You are way too excited. Have you even asked your mum, you goodie two shoes?" Lauren asked laughing.

I seriously felt my heart stop. My mum, how could I have forgotten? I got off the plump couch and ran towards the stairs. "Maybeeee" I said slowly.
