I woke up feeling groggy. The sun beamed through the windows directly on my face. I covered my eye and turned around so my face was head first on the pillow and groaned. THE PAIN.
I took in a deep breath and inhaled the scent of my pillow. It smelt like freshly washed laundry. Slowly, I turned my head towards my alarm clock. I rubbed my eyes and squinted at the time. 8:45, not too bad. I stretched out my arms and propped myself up with my elbows.
"Ava! Wake up, we have stuff to do" my mum's voice boomed from downstairs. I ran my hand over my face.
"I'm awake" I yelled crockily. I pushed myself unwillingly off my bed and trotted towards the bathroom door, pushing it open with what little energy I had in me. In attempt to wake myself up- which by the way totally failed I splashed freezing cold water on my face several times. The stinging from yesterday's incident worsened. I don't think I will even get over yesterday. Slowly, I pushed my hair aside and looked at the injury through the mirror. It had healed from yesterday and I knew that it wasn't that noticeable but to me it looked as noticeable as ever. I gave a soft sigh and covered my injury with my hair. Hastily, I headed downstairs to where mum was situated on her favorite couch- in her favorite spot.
"Morning mum!" I yelled with so much enthusiasm my head pounded in pain .
"Morning honey, what's gotten you so... chirpy?" She asked, laughing a little as she turned her head to face me. I raised and lowered a shoulder as I joined her on the couch. "I'll get breakfast ready for you. Pancakes with blueber-" With the mention of pancakes and what was supposed to be blueberries, I shot up from where I sat and ran to the kitchen squealing at the top of my lungs. "ONLY if you help me clean the house, it's getting way to cramped for my liking." Mum smirked, oh she was such a evil lady, manipulating me for her own pleasure. But I knew I couldn't deny the fact that I had no choice either way. If it wasn't for the fact that I actually didn't mind cleaning and because the pancakes and blueberries were up for offer, I would've denied the offer in an instant.
"Fine Mum, you know me too well." I sighed as I propped myself up on the kitchens stool watching Mum as she poured the right amount of deliciously gorgeous pancake mix in a perfect circle. I considered her to be a professional pancake maker- not even kidding. Drool was dripping from my mouth so I used the back of my hand to wipe it away. Sorry I know, 'tmi'.I should leave the sight of these beautiful pancakes before I flood the place. "I'm going to go get ready Mum." I announced, jumping of the stool. " You better be finished by the time I get back" I warned as I jogged up the stairs. Today was cleaning day so I changed into shorts and a oversized SpongeBob shirt. I know, I know always so fashionable. I threw my hair up in a messy bun and applied
some deodorant, for Mum's sake. I again, left the room, not before throwing myself a wink and a compliment through the mirror. What? If no one was going to compliment me, I had to do it myself. Taking one for the team. The beautiful essence of pancakes filled my senses as I turned the corner to the kitchen. There they were. Stacked perfectly on top of one another, with blueberries and maple syrup to finish them off. I sighed in contentment as I snatched the plate off the counter, not before screaming a quick 'I love you' Mum's way. I settled myself onto the couch as I dug into the pancakes. The sensation in my mouth was to die for.
I quickly finished the pancakes and took them to the sink. "Guess what? There is someone new at work. She is a wonderful woman. She actually has a kid in the same year level as you. Though, I don't thing he goes to the same school...so I don't expect you to know who he is" she said while she scrubbed the bench.
"Oh? Well I guess you both can relate on how wonderful it is to be parents of 16 year olds" I say. The broom was close by so I grabbed it and started sweeping. She chuckled in response. The ground is so dirty, this was gonna take forever.
"So how is school?" mum asked after a long pause. I stopped sweeping and answered her as I put the huge broom away.
"So far, so good. Way better than my old one" I said. I placed my hands on my hips and looked around. What needs to be done?
"Can you vacuum? It is right there honey" mum said gesturing towards the brand new vacuum next to the dining table. "I bought that a while ago, and I haven't even used it once!" She said exasperated. I walked across the kitchen and grabbed hold of the vacuum's electric cable. I dragged it from behind me and pushed it into the socket.
"You didn't tell me much of your very first party" mum said, furrowing her eyebrows as she tried wiping windows. My lips tightened together.
"Not much to say really" I said trying to drop the topic. I turned the vacuum on and my ear drums couldn't hear anything else.
"Oh, I'm sure there is something to say about it" my mum yelled over the vacuum. Maybe if I pretend I didn't hear....I quickly pushed the vacuum in the other direction.
"Don't be like that" she laughed. Am I that obvious? I groaned, not too loudly obviously and took a withered breath.
"Well I don't think that it is my thing, you know? Everyone was having fun but I wasn't really. But I mean, it was nice to see my friends" I said loudly. I saw my mum nod in the distance. I felt like wiping the nervous sweat that had rolled off my forehead but I restricted myself.
"So you're saying you don't relate to your friends in that sense?"my mum asked. I stopped vacuuming as I realised the cord didn't go any further.
"Not exactly. I mean we all find different things fun. You know like some prefer music, some sport...or...art. But we all can relate on something. For example they may find partying fun but we all have a similar type of humour" I shrugged as I took the plug out.
"But not all fun is good fun is it?" My mum asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah like bashing someone's head against a wall" I said under my breath.
"Did you say something honey?" my mum asked. I shook my head, maybe a little too quickly.
"No I just was agreeing with you" I said. She nodded and sprayed the window.

After a solid four hours of cleaning, with bathroom breaks and lunch of course. I slumped onto my bed and pulled the cover up. I knew I had to take a shower sooner or later, I hated the feeling of all the stickiness from the sweat. After playing on my phone for a while I decided it was finally time to make my way to the shower. Stripping from my sweat bound clothes and throwing it into my laundry basket I blasted the shower on, cool setting of course. The cold water removed all the grogginess I felt along with the tired feeling I had inside me. After stepping out from the shower and wrapping a towel around my hair and body I walked over to the closet and picked out some sweatpants and some 90's band top to pair together. Feeling refreshed from the shower and change of clothes, I made my way downstairs for dinner.
