I hugged my mum goodbye and exited the car. How things have changed from my first day here. I am so happy here, so carefree. I really am thankful for Natalie. I mean if it wasn't for her b*tchy behaviour, I wouldn't have met these beautiful people.
I quickly made my way past the crowds of students and to the front door. Right then, I felt like I was in one of those chick flicks striding past everyone and whipping my hair like I was some sort of goddess. However, this is reality and if I were to whip my hair...lets just say I'll be blind afterwards. I looked around for my friends but only spotted Luke and Jack. They seemed to have spotted me too because they smile at me like a bunch of lunatics. I laughed at them and screamed out "weirdos", to which Luke decided to give the finger to. I poked my tongue out and turned my attention to my locker. I unlocked it and threw my bag in. Like I care if my bag has 'feelings'. I scanned over my timetable and groaned. Double English? What has this life come to? I distracted myself with getting my books ready.
"Ava deary, how are you this morning?" Emily's voice boomed over the crowd. I closed my locker and gave her a thumbs up. She raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms. "That's all your gonna reply with?"she said in this weird motherly tone. I furrowed my eyebrows together and nodded haltingly. She gave me an incredulous look. I shrugged it off and patted her shoulder. "Omg! It's as if you don't even freakin' care!" she squealed.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" I asked. She just blinked at me for a very long time. "Uhh...Emily? Is something wrong?" I asked. She suddenly threw up her arms in a kind of defeat.
"You know what? You'll find out eventually" she huffed. She shuffled past me towards her locker. "What do you have first two periods?" She asked. This is definitely a change of moods. I just go with it. She opened her locker swiftly when I replied.
"Double English" I whined. I dragged my hands down my face and groaned from the agony. She gave me a fake sympathetic look and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Don't worry honey, the surprise is going to make your day" she said gleaming. I placed my hands on my hips and looked at her steadily. She pretended to zip her lips with her fingers. Man...I really want to know now. "No like seriously though, everyone knows! how can you not?"she asked.
"We can figure out if I actually know or not if you tell" I said with pleading eyes.
She shook her head vigorously. "Nah uh, if you actually don't know this would be an awesome surprise"she said clapping her hands and smiling excitedly. I gave a pout and closed my locker weakly. I sighed heavily to help the mood. Emily just laughed hysterically and pointed at me. "Oh man, you're priceless. I am not giving you my pity babe" she said. I frowned at her and turned my face away which made her laugh harder.
"Did you hear the news girlies? I can't wait to see your beautiful face Ava, when-"Mia said squealing as she ran over to us. Everyone looked at her weirdly as she pushed past them. Emily ran over to her and stopped Mia speaking midway, which made me nearly scream. She whispered in Mia's ear and her eyes widened.
"This makes it so much better!" Mia said as she looked at me with glistening eyes. I put on an unrealistic, fake smile. "Aww you're so cute! Can't wait!" Mia cooed once she took a look at my face.
"Ah! I can't take it any more what is it?" I yelled. Everyone around me was staring at me now. I gave an awkward laugh. "Sorry guys...go on with what ever you were doing" I said embarrassingly. Emily and Mia had tears in their eyes now. I covered my face with my hands and turned around.
"Wow, what's up with you Av" Jack asked as he bumped shoulders with me. I looked up at him with pleading eyes.
"Can you please tell me what is happening?" I begged. He looked at me with a bemused expression. I know my face dropped at that moment. If he doesn't know, then there is no one else who is willing to tell me.
"Oh I think I know what is..." He said laughing. I looked at him impatiently.
Mia came barging in between us and covered his mouth before he had the chance to talk."If you told her, I will be after you" she said in his ear. He shook his head and tried prying her hands off but she wouldn't budge.
"Okay, off we go then!" She said as she ushered him away. The last chance of knowing what these people are freaking out over is gone. My life is coming to an end before I get to know what this mayhem is about.
"He's here finally" I heard various people say. "How are you man?" Someone else asked. Who are we talking about? I shuffled past everyone to get a good view of who this suddenly popular dude is. The boy had his back to me unfortunately. I have to say from the back he looked good. Reminded me of someone...I mean that hair was styled gooood. I looked at the boy's back for a very long time. He had a pair of loose fitting black trackies, a hoodie and Nike trainers.
"Why aren't you going crazy?" Emily asked in exasperation. She was standing in front of me with her hands on her hips.
"Why what happened? Are we talking about the surprise?" I asked eagerly. Her face scrunched up so much I thought she was constipated. She suddenly started jumping around and screaming.
"Are you joking or do you actually not know? I mean you've been staring at it for a really long time!" She said as she crouched down on the floor. She dropped her face in her hands and groaned. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked around for anything suspicious.
I felt someone tug my hand. I looked around to see Imogen laughing. "Honey, see him?" She asked as she pointed to the boy I was examining earlier. I nodded and looked back at her. "His name is Nicholas Thomas, maybe you know him?" Imogen asked innocently. My eyes widened and I looked back at the boy. I quickly shook my head.
"No, it can't be. I mean he goes to my old school, that he got expelled from..."I trailed off. I groaned and gave myself a face palm. "No, still...that isn't him" I said determinedly. Imogen rested her head on my shoulder and continued to stare at...the boy, with admiration.
"Ava, Ava, Ava" Mia said as she poked me. I looked at her reluctantly. "Look it's Nicholas your soon to be boyfriend, aren't you excited?" She said happily. I looked back at him, he did look like Nicholas....
"It isn't him" I said strongly. Mia sighed and moved my face with her hands in the direction of the boy.
"I used to stare at him all day when we were little, I am pretty sure I know what he looks like" she said. The boy finally turned around and I think I nearly fainted. Nicholas' handsome face came into view. He was smiling a boyish smile, and thankfully he hadn't noticed me.
I started coughing and turned around quickly. "I think I need to go to the bathroom, bye!" I said quickly. I ran to the nearest bathroom before any of the girls could stop me. I swung the door open and walked in. My heart was beating so fast. I looked at myself in the mirror. Damn it... I looked recognisable. Maybe he's forgotten me and how I look like....
Well he recognised me at the party and I looked nothing like my ordinary self. This is going to be one hell of a day.
