Chapter 18

"Mum, I'm home!" I yelled as I unlocked the front door, pushing off my slip-on shoes at the hedge.

"How was school honey? I made some lasagna by the way, it's on the counter." Mum yelled back from her study upstairs.

"It was good, thanks for the food! I won't come out until dinner." I replied, hearing a faint 'okay' from Mum I hastily cut myself a slice from the dish and made my way upstairs. I have my exams coming and I know I have to really let my marks shine. I know that if I fail I won't just be letting Mum down, but I'll also let myself down. After a few solid hours of homework and studying I closed all my books and put everything back in its place. My clothes were disguising by now. I was sweating like a pig. I know I should of changed right away, but of course I didn't. I made myself towards the closet to pick something to chuck on after my shower. The clock read a noticeable 5:54 as I entered the bathroom. The hot water untangled my knots that I knew were forming and thus the relaxation took over me. Hoping out of the stall I wrapped a towel around my hair and changed into my pajamas, the smell of fresh clothes completely settled my mind.

I took out my phone from my previous outfit before chucking it into the basket. I had three new messages all sent from Emily.

I groaned and turned off my phone so I didn't have to look at the texts any longer. Also, for your information I hadn't put Emily down as "Emily is my Belly" in my contacts, she did. I SWEAR! It doesn't even make sense, but that's Emily for you. She has this weird need to rhyme everything.

I could imagine the pure humiliation on Nicholas' face as he realises what the girls had thought. I, myself would find it embarrassing to be dating someone like me. I am undateable. I gave a long, withered breath and turned on my phone weakly. I will have to reply to her sooner or later. She will be at it with me tomorrow if I don't.

I sent the message and took out my science notebook. The sudden sound of my ringtone blasted through the room. I stretched my arm out to reach for the phone. I took a quick look at the caller id which read 'Lauren'. I haven't spoken to her in ages! I instantly pressed answer.

"Lauren, how are you?!" I asked cheerfully. I never sound cheerful.

I heard her familiar chuckle come through the speaker. I couldn't help but give a small smile. "I am good Avery, how are you?" She asked. Eugh...Avery. She always called me that to get under my skin, it isn't even my real name!

"Don't call me Avery!" I whined."And to answer your question, I am very well".

"We have end of you exams tomorrow! I am gonna cry, you aren't here to keep me grounded during classes so I haven't been paying attention" she groaned. I laughed loudly, it was mostly fake just to annoy her.

"Oh dear, dear Lauren what are you without me?" I asked.

"Shut up, we already know what you are going to say" she says. I could imagine her shutting her eyes tightly out of annoyance.

"So you won't mind me saying it then?" I paused for a millisecond before continuing."Do you remember that time you told me I have nothing to do with those 90 percents you got? Well I sure do! If I remember correctly you also stated that you are way mature and smarter than me" I said in a serious tone. She groaned for a very long time. I actually thought that if I went downstairs to have a snack and come back, she will still be groaning.

"Can we talk about something else?" She whined.

"Like what? I think this is a good topic" I say laughing.

"I don't know. There is a lot of things to talk about. Such as how b*tchy Natalie was today. Or how I have to go to school tomorrow. Or how I have an oral due in like a week. Or how Nicholas is leaving the school because he got expelled. Or ho-" I cut Lauren's long rant once I heard what she said about Nicholas.

"Nicholas got expelled! Dude this is major!" I almost yelled. I composed myself quickly.

"Calm down! I will explain it to you now" she huffed. I eagerly pressed the phone to my ear and rested my chin on my hand. Why would he get expelled? He seemed like a good kid at the party.
